BOSTON – Riding a four-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will host American on Wednesday with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to stay afterwards for a postgame autograph session.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • The Terriers are trying to open conference play 5-0 for the second time in four years ... In 2013-14, they started 6-0 before seeing their win streak snapped at American.
  • BU is 7-1 at home having held six of the eight opponents below 70 points, including four under 64 ... The Terriers are 2-6 this year when opponents score more than 70 with the two wins coming against Maine (102-78) and Lafayette (91-75). 
  • in Case Gym, the Terriers are shooting an impressive 48.1 percent while holding opponents to 38.4 percent ... They are averaging 9.8 3-pointers per game and posting a positive rebound margin of 4.5 rpg.
  • After tallying 18 points at Lafayette with the help of a career-high three 3-pointers, senior leading scorer Eric Fanning (12.8 ppg) is two points away from becoming the 35th Terrier to reach 1,000 in the scarlet and white.
  • Junior Cedric Hankerson (12.1 ppg) drained six 3-pointers en route to 21 points against the Leopards and is 140 away from the 1,000 milestone ... He just needs 12 more treys to reach the top 10 in the BU record book.
  • Over the last six games, senior Justin Alston (10.9 ppg) has been the top performer, averaging a team-high 14.7 ppg on 57.4 percent shooting with 8.3 rpg ... He leads BU in rebounding at 6.3 rpg with Fanning (5.7 rpg) and junior Nick Havener (5.5 rpg) close behind.
  • Freshman Tyler Scanlon has nearly averaged double figures during the win streak at 9.3 ppg by shooting 52.4 percent from behind the arc ... Juniors Will Goff and Eric Johnson are also shooting at least 50 percent in 3-point territory and helped the Terriers hit a school-record 18 treys at Lafayette.

  • Selected to finish fifth in the preseason poll, the Eagles are 1-3 in conference play with all four games going down to the wire, including a 67-64 overtime win at Colgate ... They lost at home to Loyola Maryland by two (68-66) and dropped a six-point decision at preseason favorite Lehigh (79-73) this past Sunday ... Bucknell won at AU, 69-60.
  • AU is 1-6 on the road with a hard-fought loss at Maryland (62-56) with a 3-5 home record featuring wins over Western Illinois (57-50), Youngstown State (77-62) and Maryland Eastern Shore (61-58).
  • The Eagles share one non-conference opponent with BU ... They lost at home to New Hampshire, 80-70, before BU posted a 73-69 home win against the Wildcats.
  • Freshman 6-foot-1 guard Sa'eed Nelson leads the Eagles in scoring at 16.7 ppg and is a three-time PL Rookie of the Week, while 6-foot-5 guard and reigning PL Rookie of the Year Delante Jones is averaging 11.9 ppg ... Senior 6-foot-4 guard Charlie Jones leads AU in rebounding at 4.9 rpg with freshman 6-foot-10 forward Mark Gasperini (11.3 ppg) close behind at 4.7 rpg.
  • As a team, the Eagles are averaging 62.1 ppg while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, including 28.7 percent in 3-point territory ... Opponents are averaging 69.5 ppg and 46.3 FG%, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series, 7-3, in a rivalry dating back to 1997-98.
  • Since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013, they are 5-1 against the Eagles in conference play but are 0-2 in conference tournament action.
  • Last year in the PL quarterfinals at Case Gym, American owned a 33-27 halftime lead and held on for 69-64 victory, as BU finished 9-of-20 from the free throw line against the Eagles' 15-of-19 performance.
  • AU's Jalen Rhea hit four 3-pointers en route to 14 points, while Fanning owned a game-high 18 points.
