THE TURNING POINT
- BU took the lead for good with 3:21 left in overtime when freshman Tyler Scanlon drained his fourth 3-pointer of the game for an 80-79 advantage.
- After senior Eric Fanning hit 1-of-2 free throws for an 90-88 lead, Army was inadvertently fouled with 0.1 seconds left on the clock attempting a desperate half-court heave.
- The Black Knights' Jacob Kessler got two lucky bounces for the first free throw but had zero help on the next two attempts in front of an energized crowd filled with BU Club Sports members as part of the annual BU Club Sports Night for the loss.
HEADED TO OT
- Scanlon drained a 3-pointer at 5:54 in the second half to tie BU's largest lead of the game at eight points (73-65).
- The Black Knights responded with a 3-pointer following back-to-back turnovers to key a 9-0 run capped by Tommy Funk's free throw at 2:07 to pull ahead, 74-73.
- After Fanning and Funk exchanged baskets, junior Eric Johnson fed senior Justin Alston for a dunk with 59 seconds remaining for a 77-76 lead.
- Army's John Emezie went 1-of-2 at the line with 44 seconds left to tie the game.
- After BU missed a contested layup and jumper, the Black Knights gained possession of the ball and called a timeout with 11.7s left but also missed a tough jumper before the buzzer to force OT.
THE SETUP
- BU shot 59.3 percent in the first half, but Army also had a strong offensive start at 53.8 percent with seven 3-pointers.
- The Terriers grabbed their largest lead at 8:35 (32-24) ion sophomore Kyle Foreman's jumper, but Funk came back with a 3-pointer and Luke Morrison added another with 10 seconds remaining to pull within four (46-42) entering the locker room.
- The teams traded blows and found themselves tied, 61-61, with 9:37 remaining in regulation ... The Terriers then went on a 12-4 run capped by Scanlon's trey.
GAME NOTES
- The coaching staffs for both teams were wearing sneakers and @AdorableLacey laces in support of @CoachesvsCancer.
- Sixth-year head coach Joe Jones became the third out of 25 in 108 seasons to lead the Terriers to 100 wins, joining Mike Jarvis ('85-'90, 102 wins) and Dennis Wolff ('94-'09, 247 wins).
- Fanning went 11-of-17 from the field and 8-of-9 at the line to finish with 32 points, five shy of the 37 scored against Loyola Maryland in another overtime thriller in 2016 ... It was the second most scored by a Terrier this season, as junior Cedric Hankerson scored 34 at Syracuse back in December.
- Scanlon hit four 3-pointers in a game for the third time this season to tally a season-high 17 points.
- Featuring six Black Knights in double figures, Army went to overtime for the third time in five games ... The other two losses occurred at home to Colgate and Navy.
- BU improved to 15-8 all-time in the series and 6-2 since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
NEXT UP: LEHIGH
- Finishing the first go-round above .500 in the Patriot League for the second time in their four years as a member, the Terriers will next travel to Lehigh on Monday night (Jan. 30) with the CBS Sports Network broadcast set for 7 p.m.
