BOSTON – Coming off a 75-61 home win over Patriot League preseason favorite Lehigh, the Boston University men's basketball team will open the nine-game conference road slate at Navy on Thursday (Jan. 5) with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers are looking to open conference play 3-0 for the third time in four years and match the 2013-14 squad's 6-0 start.
  • They are coming off arguably their best defensive effort of the season against Patriot League preseason favorite Lehigh in which they held the No. 18 field goal shooting team (49.5) to 34.9 FG% and 29 points below their scoring average.
  • Senior Justin Alston tallied a team-high 14 points and nine rebounds in the win over the Mountain Hawks and now ranks eighth in the conference in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and 23rd in scoring (10.8 ppg) … He is one of three Terriers averaging double figures with senior Eric Fanning (13th, 13.1 ppg) and junior Cedric Hankerson (20th, 11.4 ppg) leading the way.
  • Fanning is also 10th in the PL in rebounding at 5.8 rpg, while junior Nick Havener is 14th at 5.5 rpg … Sophomore Kyle Foreman ranks third in assists at 4.8 apg, as the Terriers rank third in the conference in scoring at 74.9 ppg.
  • Freshman Max Mahoney posted 10 points (w/ six rebounds) on Monday to become the 13th Terrier to reach double figures and the 15th overall on the roster … Classmate Tyler Scanlon also had 10 and is currently shooting 47.1 percent in 3-point territory over the last three games.
  • BU is seeking its first road win of the season following six losses, including a pair of defeats by two points (UConn, UMass Lowell) and another by four (NC State).
  • In five of the six road losses, BU has allowed at least 77 points, while at home with a 7-1 record, the Terriers have only allowed more than 70 twice with four scoring below 64 points.
  • On the offensive end, the Terriers are shooting 48.1 percent and 39.6 percent from behind the arc at home compared to 40.4 and 28.0 percent, respectively, on the road.
SCOUTING NAVY
  • The Midshipmen are looking to snap a three-game losing streak following a 63-54 loss at Hartford and tough losses to Bucknell (59-55) and at Holy Cross (51-50) on a buzzer-beater.
  • Navy is 5-2 at home with key wins over Columbia (69-54), Bryant (76-74), Penn (70-68) and UMBC (78-66) … The other home loss came against Ohio State (78-68).
  • Shawn Anderson is the lone Mid averaging double-figures at 11.3 ppg with George Kiernan close behind at 9.7 ppg.
  • Tom Lacey is nearly averaging a double-double at 8.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while Hasan Abdullah (6.6 ppg) owns a team-high 1.7 spg.
  • Navy ranks second in the PL in scoring defense at 65.4 ppg but has the worst defensive field goal percentage (46.6 FG%) … The Mids have compensated by allowing a league-low 31.1 rebounds while ranking second in offensive rebounds at 12.1 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series, 7-1, after the two squads split last year's meetings on the road … BU won the first-ever contest between the two schools in the 1959 NCAA Sweet 16 in Charlotte, N.C.
  • In the last meeting at Alumni Hall, BU shot a stellar 68 percent in the first half to post a 45-35 halftime lead and then went 14-of-19 at the line in the second to hold off the Mids for an 83-72 victory … Foreman went 4-of-4 from behind the arc en route to 17 points
  • Navy won the first meeting at Case Gym after trailing by two at the half by shooting 57.1 percent in the second half and going 20-of-24 at the line with five Mids finishing in double figures.
