Power Play Hat Trick by Carpenter Lifts No. 7/8 Terriers Past UConn, 6-3
October 21, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
HARTFORD, Conn. - Bolstered by junior Bobo Carpenter's first collegiate hat trick, the No. 7/8 Boston University men's ice hockey team doubled up UConn, 6-3, on Saturday at the XL Center to take three of four points in the weekend home-and-home series.
All of Carpenter's goals came on the power play and he added an assist for a four-point performance. Sophomore Patrick Curry had the first two-goal game of his career to help the Terriers improve to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers scored twice in the opening 89 seconds to take a lead they would not relinquish.
- BU went 3-of-4 on the power play and added a trio of even-strength goals.
- Carpenter opened the scoring on the Terriers' first power play chance of the night, backhanding a shot past UConn netminder Adam Huska just 1:09 into the game.
- Just 20 seconds later, Curry potted his first goal of the season on assists from defensemen John MacLeod and Kasper Kotkansalo.

- UConn got within one moments later when Spencer Naas pounced on a loose puck behind BU goaltender Jake Oettinger.
- BU made sure that's as close as the home team would get, however, and regained a two-goal edge with 5:28 left in the second.
- On a power play, Carpenter cleaned up a rebound off a bid by sophomore Chad Krys by backhanding it to the back of the net at the left crease to create a 4-2 advantage.
- Senior captain Brandon Hickey scored his first goal of the season just 27 seconds into the third on a one-timer from the top of the right circle following a pass from junior Jordan Greenway.
- UConn's Kasperi Ojantakanen cut the BU lead to 5-3 at 5:18 of the final period.
- BU notched its third-power play goal of the game when Carpenter secured his hat trick on a redirect in the slot from an attempt by sophomore Dante Fabbro with 5:14 left in regulation.
