BU to Visit Colgate Wednesday Night

BOSTON – Riding a three-game win streak, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit Colgate in a key Patriot League matchup on Wednesday night with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

The Terriers are currently tied-for-second with Navy in the PL standings at 10-4 with four games remaining and are two games behind leader Bucknell  (12-2) with Lehigh in fourth at 8-6. The Raiders are one of three teams at 7-7 alongside Loyola Maryland and Holy Cross.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • During their win streak, BU claimed home wins over Lafayette (58-58) and Loyola Maryland (78-63) with a road win at American (67-64) ... The Terriers are shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 40.6 percent in 3-point territory, while the opponents averaged 41.2 FG% and 34.5 3FG%, respectively.
  • Reigning PL Player of the Week and senior Justin Alston (11.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg) is averaging a 15.7 ppg with 5.0 rpg during the streak, while senior Eric Fanning (15.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg) is at 13.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg , respectively ... Freshman Tyler Scanlon (7.8 ppg) and junior Eric Johnson (4.0 ppg) have stepped up combining for an average of 19 points with the help of a combined 14 3-pointers.
  • With their home win over Loyola, the Terriers clinched their eighth 10+ conference-win season in the last nine years ... In the previous win over American, they extended their streak of finishing .500 or better in conference play to 17 seasons, the t-11th longest streak in the country.
  • BU is 4-8 on the road with a 4-2 conference mark with road wins at American, Lehigh, Lafayette and Navy ... The two losses came against Loyola Maryland and Bucknell. 
  • The Terriers have earned sweeps this season over Lafayette and American and are 1-0 so far when trying to avoid suffering their own sweep ... Bucknell is the only other team besides Colgate with the opportunity to sweep BU.
  • In conference play, the Terriers rank second in steals at 9.1 spg while Colgate is ninth at 5.2 spg ... Sophomore Kyle Foreman is averaging a league-high 2.4 spg in PL action with junior Cedric Hankerson sixth at 1.9 spg ... Scanlon is tied-for-15th at 1.4 spg after tallying a season-high five steals against the Greyhounds on Saturday. 
SCOUTING COLGATE
  • The Raiders are 4-6 at home compared to 5-10 on the road ... They own home conference wins against Navy (55-52), Army West Point (70-58) and Loyola Maryland (52-49) with losses to American (67-64 OT), Holy Cross (67-61), Bucknell (83-69) and Lehigh (76-52).
  • Colgate is is coming off Monday night's 75-58 loss at Bucknell that snapped a two-game win streak ... PL teams are currently 0-8 in midweek games following an appearance on a CBS Sports Network Monday night broadcast with the Terriers having lost twice to Colgate (Jan. 18) and to Navy (Feb. 2).
  • Reigning PL Rookie of the Week and 6-foot-8 forward Will Rayman is averaging a team-high 14.8 ppg while fellow 6-foot-8 forward Malcolm Regisford (8.1 ppg) is averaging a team-high 7.3 rpg.
  • Colgate is averaging 66.7 ppg while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and is holding opponents to 70.8 ppg and 44.9 FG%.
  • The Raiders are currently tied with BU in made 3-pointers at 230 but required one extra game to hit the mark. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series, 25-19, as the teams were previously members of the America East from 1979-1989.
  • They met for the first time in 2014 since Colgate left to join the PL with BU claiming a sweep en route to the Patriot League regular season title ... Colgate snapped a 20-game losing streak in the series with a sweep of its own in 2015 despite the Terriers owning double-digit leads in the first half of each contest ... They then split in 2016 with both home teams winning.
  • In the last meeting back on Jan. 18 at Case Gym, the Terriers jumped out to a 15-2 over the first 10 minutes, but the Raiders responded with a 16-2 run over a five-minute stretch and went into the locker room ahead, 26-22 ... BU cut a 10-point deficit (49-39) to one at 3:05 (56-55) and later two at 1:25 (60-58) but eventually fell, 67-58.
  • Playing their second game in three days, the Terriers shot 35.1 percent, their second-worst performance of the season, as leading scorer Fanning tallied 21 points (w/ 12 rebounds) despite going 5-of-18 from the field ... Alston went 8-of-9 en route to 18 points ... The Raiders' Rayman and Sean O'Brien combined for 41 points, as Colgate shot 40.0 percent for the game.
  • In the last meeting at Colgate,  the Raiders trailed, 44-38, with 17:19 left, before converting on back-to-back 3-point plays to go on a 24-6 run over the following six minutes ... They shot 58.3 percent from the field and hit 14-of-25 (.560) from behind the arc against a BU squad playing its second game in three days.
