MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Senior Gabi Martinez combined for six RBIs with the help of two homers and classmate Makinna Akers pitched a two-hitter to help the Boston University softball claim wins over UAB (5-3) and Quinnipiac (8-1) on Saturday night at the Madeira Beach Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Terriers jumped out of the gate with three runs in the first when senior Gabi Martinez hit a one-out, three-run blast to left to bring home senior Moriah Connolly and sophomore Alex Heinen.
• UAB tied the game with three runs off a combined five hits against junior starter Sydni Overly and freshman reliever Kali Magane.
• Magane just allowed two hits the rest of the game to keep the Blazers from adding more runs.
• BU took the lead for good on Martinez's lead-off homer to center in the top of the sixth and added an insurace score on Heinen's two-out solo blast in the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Senior Moriah Connolly led off the bottom of the first with a single and then stole two bags before reaching home on a throwing error.
• The Terriers added four runs in the third on sophomore Alex Heinen's RBI single, senior Gabi Martinez's two-RBI single and a defensive error.
• Quinnipiac avoided the shutout thanks to a single, double and RBI groundout in the top of the fourth but would not get another hit against senior Makinna Akers, who finished with six strikeouts.
• BU put the game away with three runs off three hits and two Bobcat errors in the sixth with junior Jilee Schanda hitting an RBI single ... Both sophomore Emily Morrow and senior Rachel Levine reached home due to throwing miscues.
