BU Begins Final Week of Regular Season Play at Army Wednesday Night

BOSTON – Currently second in the Patriot League standings with two games remaining, the Boston University men's basketball will open the final road trip of the regular season at Army West Point on Wednesday with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

The Terriers (11-5 PL) have already clinched a home quarterfinal game and control their own destiny for the No. 2 seed with both Navy (10-6) and Lehigh (10-6 PL) one game behind, while the Black Knights (5-11 PL) control their own destiny for a home game in the first round as the No. 7 seed with Lafayette (4-12 PL) one game behind as well.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • Ever since starting the season 0-6 on the road, the Terriers have gone 5-2 since and are currently riding a three-game win streak away from home.
  • In conference road games, BU has collected victories over preseason favorite Lehigh, American, Colgate, Navy and Lafayette with losses to Bucknell and Loyola Maryland. 
  • Senior Eric Fanning owns a team-high 14.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg and is also second on the team in assists at 2.1 apg ... The 2016 All-PL First Team honoree is on track to become the first since John Holland in 2009-10 to lead the Terriers in both scoring and rebounding.
  • Both Fanning and senior Justin Alston have been named PL Player of the Week during conference play ... Alston is second in both categories at 12.0 ppg and 5.9 rpg while shooting 57.6 percent from the field.
  • BU ranks 17th nationally in steals at 8.3 spg and are averaging 9.2 spg in conference play ... Junior Cedric Hankerson (9.7 ppg) ranks 34th at 2.00 spg, while sophomore Kyle Foreman (6.7 ppg, 4.6 apg) is 42nd at 1.92 spg.
  • The Terriers are shooting 35.5 percent from behind the arc but have had a tougher time on the road shooting just 32.0 percent compared to opponents 37.3 percent.
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
  • The Black Knights have had more success at home with a 7-8 mark compared to 4-9 road record ... In conference play, they own wins over Loyola Maryland and Lafayette with overtime losses to both Navy and Colgate.
  • Army is riding a two-game win streak following 52-47 victory at Holy Cross and thrilling 71-68 victory at Navy ... The Black Knights trailed by 25 with 13 minutes remaining before rallying to defeat the Midshipmen.
  • Army ranks fourth in the PL averaging 73.1 ppg, just behind BU's 73.4 ppg, and are shooting 43.9 percent from the field ... Jordan Fox is the lone Black Knight averaging double figures at 12.2 ppg with John Emezie, (9.7 ppg), Tommy Funk (9.4 ppg) and Matt Wilson (9.3 ppg) all in striking distance
  • The Black Knights are averaging a PL-high 9.2 3-pointers on 35.3 percent shooting ... They are holding opponents to 32.6 percent and 6.5 treys per game.
  • Mac Hoffman is averaging a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game, and the Black Knights own a positive 2.1 rebounding margin with the help of a PL-high 27.4 defensive rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads Army, 15-8, in a series that dates back to 1954-55 ... The Terriers are 6-2 against the Black Knights since joining the Patriot League with a 3-0 sweep in 2014 and back-to-back splits.
  • In the last contest in Case Gym, the Black Knights went 1-of-3 at the line with 0.1 seconds left in overtime for the 90-89 loss in a contest that saw both teams shoot over 48 percent and combine for 58 free throw attempts ... Army owned a 13-9 advantage in made 3-pointers. 
  • Fanning scored a game-high 32 points in the 90-89 OT win to claim PL Player of the Week honors, while freshman Tyler Scanlon hit four 3-pointers en route to 17 points and PL Rookie of the Week accolades ... Funk led Army with 16 points, while Morrison, Fox and Emezie all had 14 points apiece.
  • In last year's meeting at West Point, Army jumped out to an early 15-6 lead but was tied at the half, 33-33 ... With the score tied, 46-46, at 13:26, BU reeled off five straight points and held on for the 76-67 win ... Terriers had a 45-33 advantage in rebounding and shot 46 percent from the field while holding the Black Knights to 33 percent.
