Tyler Scanlon, the Boston University men's basketball team defeated Holy Cross, 71-68, in overtime to close out the regular season on a high note.
With Saturday's win, the Terriers earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament and will host either No. 7 Loyola Maryland or No. 10 Lafayette in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2 at The Roof with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

TURNING POINT
- With the score tied 59-59 with 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Holy Cross had a chance to win the game on their final possession, but freshman Tyler Scanlon stepped into the driving lane and swiped the ball away from Holy Cross' Anthony Thompson to help send the game to overtime.
- Trailing, 62-61, with 2:04 to play in overtime, Scanlon and junior Cedric Hankerson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Terriers ahead for good, as BU hit four free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the victory.
THE SETUP
- After BU took its first lead of the game (18-17) on Scanlon's first of five 3-pointers with 7:24 to play in the first, Holy Cross went on a 5-0 spurt to open up a 22-18 lead with 5:13 remaining in the first half.
- Holy Cross outscored BU, 16-6, over the final seven minutes and took a 33-24 lead into the locker room with the Crusaders' Robert Champion posting a game-high 16 points.
- BU jumped out of the gate in the second half with four 3-pointers to spark a 22-6 run capped by senior Justin Alston's converted 3-point play with 13:12 left in regulation.
- Holy Cross answered with a 9-2 run of its own to cut the BU lead to 53-51 with 8:06 remaining in regulation..
GAME NOTES
- Scanlon hit a personal-best five 3-pointers to finish with a season-high 19 points and was named the Turnpike Trophy MVP, as the Terriers extended their lead to 12-1 in the all-sports competition against the Crusaders.
- Alston posted 11 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and his fourth overall.
- Junior Cedric Hankerson drained four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points and move into seventh place all-time at BU with 183 career treys.
- Sophomore Kyle Foreman recorded seven points, six rebounds and five assists.
- Holy Cross out-rebounded BU, 20-13, in the first half, but BU out-rebounded Holy Cross, 19-13, in the second.
- BU's defense held Holy Cross to just 31.6% shooting (6-19) in the second half.
- BU shot 50% (8-16) from 3-point range in the second half and went 2-of-3 (.667) from three in OT.
- The Terriers finished tied-for-second in the PL standings with Lehigh at 12-6 but owned the tiebreaker due to an earlier sweep over the Mountain Hawks.

- The No. 2 seed Terriers will next host a PL Tournament quarterfinal game on Thursday, March 2 against either No. 7 Loyola Maryland or No. 10 Lafayette, who will battle on Tuesday (Feb. 28) ... Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
- BU finish the regular season as the No. 2 seed for the first time since 2013 when the Terriers were banned from participating by the America East due to the upcoming move to the Patriot League ... They last competed as the No. 2 seed in 2011 when they won all three games in the 2011 America East tournament, which also marked the Terriers' last NCAA appearance.
