2017 Season Outlook
After four straight road games to begin the 2017 season, the No. 19 Boston University men's lacrosse team will finally host its home opener on Tuesday night when Bryant visits Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Tuesday is Mardi Gras, and the BU will be celebrating by giving away free Mardi Gras beads to all fans in attendance.
BU is 4-0 for the first time in program history after its thrilling 8-7 win at then-No. 17/18 Navy on Saturday. Junior Jack Wilson was the hero, assisting on the tying strike before scoring the winner with just 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation. Wilson had three goals on the day and led all players with four points.
Two other Terriers who had a big part in the comeback win were honored by the Patriot League on Monday. Seniors Christian Carson-Banister and Greg Wozniak were named Goalkeeper of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Carson-Banister made 10 saves and allowed seven or fewer goals for the fourth time this season while Wozniak scooped up seven ground balls and helped hold the starting Navy attackers to a combined zero points.
Defense and goaltending have been the hallmarks of the Terriers so far this season. BU has allowed just 6.75 goals per game this season, lowest in the Patriot League and fifth-lowest in the nation. The Terriers have also averaged an NCAA-best 16 saves per game while Carson-Banister is third in the NCAA in save percentage (.675) and fourth in the country in goals-against average (6.55).
Bryant (2-2) enters Tuesday having defeated Hartford, 17-11, on Saturday. Tucker James scored six goals and added three assists for nine points against the Hawks and leads Bryant with 13 goals and 20 points this season. James Werner has started all four games in the cage and has allowed just 8.11 goals per game while saving 55.8 percent of the shots he has faced.
Following Tuesday's tilt, the Terriers will remain at home to face Air Force on Saturday at 12 p.m.
