BOSTON – Looking for its third sweep in four games, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit American on Wednesday night with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Last week, the Terriers completed sweeps at Lehigh (76-59) and vs. Lafayette (75-58) to help Joe Jones become the No. 2 all-time leader at BU In coaching wins (102).
  • BU is currently tied for second in the Patriot League standings with Navy at 8-4 with six league games remaining and Bucknell well ahead at 11-1. 
  • Senior Eric Fanning was one rebound shy of his fourth double-double of the season on Sunday against Lafayette and currently leads the team in both points (15.2 ppg) and rebounds (6.3 rpg) ... He was the only Terrier to average double figures in the three games last week at 19.7 ppg.
  • Senior Justin Alston is the second Terrier averaging double figures at 11.3 ppg and is second in rebounding at 6.0 rpg ... He is shooting an impressive 59.2 percent in conference play.
  • BU ranks 32nd nationally in steals at 8.0 spg ... Junior Cedric Hankerson (10.3 ppg) ranks 52nd at 1.91 spg, while sophomore Kyle Foreman ranks 81st at 1.78 spg and 64th in assists (4.9 apg).
  • Juniors Will Goff and Eric Johnson tied personal bests with four 3-pointers apiece on Sunday against the Leopards ... Hankerson added two in the win and now ranks 10th all-time at BU in career treys (173).
  • The Terriers continue to rank first in defensive field goal percentage (.420) and are on track to lead a conference in the category for the first time since 2003-04.

SCOUTING AMERICAN

  • AU is 2-9 in PL play with six single-digit losses ... Wins at Colgate (67-64 OT) and vs. Laf., 71-57.
  • The Eagles are 4-9 at home compared to 1-9 road mark with other wins over Western Illinois, Youngstown State and Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • The Eagles share one non-conference opponent with BU ... They lost at home to New Hampshire, 80-70, before BU posted a 73-69 home win.
  • Guard Sa'eed Nelson leads AU in scoring at 15.0 ppg and is a three-time PL Rookie of the Week ... Forward Mark Gasperini is next at 11.7 ppg ... Guard and reigning & PL Rookie of the Year Delante Jones is averaging 11.6 ppg ... Guard Charlie Jones leads in rebounding at 5.6 rpg.
  • As a team, the Eagles are averaging 61.1 ppg while shooting 44.5 FG%, including 29.7 3FG% ... Opponents are averaging 68.8 ppg and 47.3 FG%, respectively.

AMERICAN SERIES HISTORY

  • BU leads all-time series, 8-3, in a rivalry dating back to 1997-98.
  • Since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013, BU is 6-1 vs. the Eagles in conference play but is 0-2 in PL tournament action.
  • Last year in the PL quarters at Case Gym, American held on for 69-64 win, as BU finished 9-of-20 FT against the Eagles' 15-of-19 FT.
  • In the first meeting this season at BU, Terriers opened on 20-4 run but American responded with 12-0 spurt ... BU was ahead, 64-59, with 3:25 left when Hankerson drained his fifth 3-pointer to help create enough distance ... Both Hankerson and AU's Delante Jones both had 21 pts.
  • In the last game at AU, BU led 32-27 at the half and led by as many as 14 late in the game .. The Terriers held the Eagles to 34.7 FG%, two years after AU shot 71.4 FG% in an 86-56 home win.
