The No. 15/18 Boston University men's lacrosse team will return to Patriot League play on Monday afternoon when the Terriers hit the road to face Colgate. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
Monday's game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but due to a forecast that called for frigid temperatures throughout the weekend, the contest was moved to Monday.
The Terriers are one of eight unbeaten teams in the country entering the weekend and one of only three schools at 6-0 after an 8-6 win over Air Force on March 4.. Defense and goaltending have highlighted this terrific start to the season, as BU boasts the fifth-ranked defense in the nation, having allowed an average of just 7.0 goals per game this season. The Terriers have allowed a mere 5.16 even-strength goals per game this year, which ranks second in the country, and they have yet to allow 10 or more goals in any game this season.
Senior Christian Carson-Banister, announced as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award on Thursday, is in the midst of an outstanding season for BU. He ranks second in the country in save percentage (.669) and third in the nation in goals-against average (6.87). Carson-Banister is also first in the NCAA with an average of 13.50 saves per game.
Offensively, the starting attack unit of senior Cal Dearth, junior Ryan Hilburn and junior Jack Wilson has paced the Terriers. They have combined for 33 goals - half the Terriers' total this year - and 21 assists for 54 points this season. Dearth leads BU in goals (13), assists (9) and points (22) while Hilburn (8g, 8a) and Wilson (12g, 4a) each have 16 points.
Colgate defeated Hobart, 13-6, at home on Wednesday to move to 2-3 overall. That was the Raiders' second win in three games; they also bested Bucknell on Feb. 25 before suffering an 11-5 setback to Lehigh on March 5. Anthony Abbadessa is the team's leading goal scorer (10) and point producer (14) while Sam Cleveland leads the team in assists (7) and also has 14 points. Goalkeeper Brandon Burke owns a 10.11 goals-against average and a .528 save percentage.
BU will begin a three-game homestand next weekend when the Terriers welcome Bucknell to Nickerson Field on Saturday, March 18. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
