Terriers Remain Unbeaten with 18-7 Win at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The No. 15/16 Boston University men's lacrosse team scored 14 straight goals and 12 different Terriers found the back of the net as BU earned an 18-7 win at Colgate on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Colgate made it 1-0 less than 5:00 into the contest, the Terriers scored nine straight goals to close the half.
  • BU began its run with a goal by senior Henry Lee with 9:34 to play in the first quarter.
  • Junior Hayden Ruiz made it 2-1 with 4:54 to play in the opening frame when he dodged and picked out the top right corner of the net.
  • Two goals in 37 seconds gave the Terriers a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes. Right after a Terrier timeout, junior Jack Wilson found senior Michael Carbone for a 3-1 advantage. Then, freshman John MacLean notched his fifth goal of the season to close the quarter.
  • Junior Ryan Hilburn and senior Adam Schaal each tallied two goals in the second stanza, with sophomore Brendan Homire also finding the back of the net to create the 9-1 halftime scoreline. Sophomore James Burr and senior Pat Myers each had an assist apiece in that quarter.
  • Senior Allen Winkoff opened the third quarter with a goal from his own end of the field as he broke a 10-man ride.
  • Goals from MacLean, Burr, Hilburn and senior Cal Dearth made it 14-1 before the Raiders ended that run with a marker of their own.
  • Sophomore Michael Laviano made it 15-2 after three quarters with his first goal of the game.
  • The Raiders scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter before Carbone's second of the game made it 16-5. Senior Ryan Johnston and Laviano closed the scoring for BU, with junior Kyle Parsons assisting on Johnston's goal.
  • Colgate added a late goal to complete the 18-7 score.

GAME NOTES

  • Wilson extended his point streak to 33 games.
  • This win continues the best start in program history for BU, which moved to 7-0.
  • Fifteeen different Terriers recorded at least one point.
  • Senior Christian Carson-Banister made eight saves and allowed just three goals in over 46 minutes of work. Freshman Joe McSorley (1 save) and sophomore Sean McGovern also saw time in the cage.
  • BU recorded 37 ground balls and forced six of Colgate's 18 turnovers. Nineteen different Terriers got a ground ball.
  • Carbone, Laviano and MacLean each matched their respective career highs with two goals apiece.
  • Freshman Chase Levesque gathered a team-high four ground balls and also went 2-of-4 at the faceoff X.
  • Freshman Connor Pearce won a faceoff as well.
  • Senior Dominick Calisto collected a team-high two caused turnovers in addition to gathering two ground balls.
  • The Terriers matched their program high for goals in a game with 18 - they accomplished that the last time they were at Colgate in 2015. BU last scored 18 goals earlier this season at UMass Lowell.

  • BU will begin a three-game homestand on Saturday, March 18, when the Terriers host Bucknell at Nickerson Field.
