The No. 15/16 Boston University men's lacrosse team will begin a three-game homestand on Saturday when the Terriers welcome Bucknell to Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
BU can match its program record for wins in a season with a victory on Saturday, which would move the Terriers to 8-0 overall and also mark their first-ever 3-0 start in conference play. Bucknell meanwhile is 0-3 in the Patriot League and 2-4 overall, having lost four straight games.
The Terriers remained one of five unbeaten teams in the country with an 18-7 win at Colgate on Monday, highlighted by a 14-goal run that erased an early 1-0 deficit and put the Terriers up, 14-1, with 7:00 left in the third quarter. Twelve different players scored in that victory, led by junior Ryan Hilburn's hat trick.
Through seven games, 21 different Terriers have found the back of the net, which is the most in the country. Those players are also scoring efficiently, as BU ranks first in the Patriot League and ninth in the nation in shot percentage, converting on 34.9 percent of its shots. The Terriers were good on 51.4 percent of their shots on Monday in the win at Colgate. Teams are shooting just 18.7 percent against BU this season, with only two teams - Bryant and Colgate - that have converted on over 20 percent of their shots against the Terriers this year.
Defense continues to be a hallmark of the Terriers this season, with BU entering the weekend tied for fourth in the NCAA in scoring defense. Opponents have averaged a mere 7.0 goals per game against BU this season, including just 5.43 even-strength goals. That makes the Terriers the second-stingiest squad in the nation when the teams are even.
Bucknell was slated to face Villanova on Tuesday but winter weather forced a postponement. Sean O'Brien and Connor O'Hara have scored 19 and 15 goals, respectively, accounting for 56 percent of the Bison offense this year. Will Sands leads the team with 20 assists. Christian Klipstein has played in all six games, posting a 2-4 record with a .477 save percentage and an 11.58 goals-against average.
Following Saturday's game, the Terriers will host Harvard on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen live on Twitter in addition to the Patriot League Network. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
