BOSTON – Senior Cal Dearth matched a program record with seven points and sophomore James Burr matched a career high with four goals as the No. 19 Boston University men's lacrosse team defeated Harvard, 13-8, on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Harvard opened the scoring just 1:33 into the contest before the Terriers rattled off three straight goals to close the first quarter.
  • Freshman John MacLean scored the first of his career-high three goals to begin the run with 12:13 to play in the frame, followed by goals from Burr and Dearth late in the quarter.
  • The Crimson cut the BU lead to 3-2 1:08 into the second stanza but Dearth and Burr each tallied their second goal of the contest to give BU a 5-2 lead.
  • Burr completed his first-half hat trick with 5:34 to play in the frame, and despite a quick Harvard response, Dearth found MacLean with 4:09 to play in the half to give the Terriers a 7-4 halftime advantage.
  • Harvard scored the first two goals of the third quarter to cut the Terrier lead to 7-6, but that's as close as the Crimson got.
  • Junior Hayden Ruiz found Dearth for the second time in the game to regain a two-goal lead before Burr added his fourth goal of the contest to take a 9-6 advantage into the final frame.
  • Junior Jack Wilson's 16th goal of the season gave the Terriers their first four-goal edge of the game with 9:34 to play.
  • Harvard answered, but MacLean and junior Ryan Hilburn each scored to make it 12-7 with 3:17 remaining in regulation. 
  • After a Crimson goal made it 12-8, senior Cam Pincus forced a turnover, quickly got the ball to Chase Levesque at midfield, and the freshman did the rest as he ran towards goal and fired home his third goal of the season to close the scoring.

GAME NOTES

  • Dearth recorded seven points for the third time in his career thanks to three goals and four assists.
  • He last tallied seven on April 17, 2015 against Holy Cross.
  • Dearth has recorded 13 points in his last two games against Harvard.
  • BU limited Harvard to just 21 total shots while the Terriers fired 45 shots.
  • Wilson extended his point streak to 35 games with a goal and two assists. He also recorded two ground balls.
  • Senior Dominick Calisto held Morgan Cheek, who entered Tuesday second in the NCAA in points per game and third in the nation in goals per game, to just one goal and one assist in another terrific performance against an opponent's top attacker.
  • Calisto caused two turnovers and also secured three ground balls, with Cheek's goal coming late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach.
  • Junior Joe Stucky had a career night at the X, winning a career-best 18 of the 25 draws he took. Stucky gathered six ground balls as part of his terrific performance.
  • Senior Henry Lee collected a career-high six ground balls.
  • In addition to his career-high three goals, MacLean added an assist to match his single-game high of four points which he first achieved at Hartford on Feb. 18.
  • Senior Christian Carson-Banister made eight saves and added two ground balls.
  • Ruiz matched his career high with a pair of helpers.
  • The Terriers collected 32 ground balls to just 19 for Harvard and also went 17-of-18 in clears.
