The No. 19 Boston University men's lacrosse team will conclude its three-game homestand on Saturday when the Terriers welcome Lafayette to Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Saturday is Youth Lacrosse Day at Nickerson Field. Kids in the 8th grade (or younger) will receive free admission and are encouraged to wear their team jersey or BU gear. Kids will also receive a free youth BU Lacrosse t-shirt (while supplies last) and can take advantage of the poster making station and the temporary tattoo station in addition to various contests and prizes, including a team edition backpack prize pack. There will also be a postgame autograph session with the Terriers.
BU (8-1, 2-1 PL) can set a new program record for wins in a season with a victory on Saturday. The Terriers are off to their best start in program history and have already matched last year's win total of eight. They return to Patriot League play on Saturday after improving to 6-0 against non-conference opponents with a 13-8 win over Harvard on Tuesday night. Senior Cal Dearth recorded seven points (3g, 4a) while sophomore James Burr (4g) and freshman John MacLean (3g, 1a) each had four-point evenings. While several members of the Terrier offense had career nights on Tuesday, junior Joe Stucky was equally impressive at the faceoff X. He won a career-high 18 of the 25 faceoffs he took (.720) and gathered six ground balls. His 10-of-13 performance in the first half helped BU build a 7-4 lead and he helped close out the win by going 6-of-7 in the fourth quarter.
Lafayette is the only school that BU has defeated in each of the program's first three seasons. Last year, the Terriers earned a 16-6 road win against the Leopards. Fast starts have been key in this series, as the Terriers have outscored the Leopards, 18-3, in the first half over the last two years.
The Leopards are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the league, with their lone conference win coming on March 11 against Navy. Lafayette last lost to Lehigh, 15-7, on March 18. Scott McAvoy leads the Leopards in goals (11) and points (13) with Eric Joseph (5g, 6a) and Connar Dehnert (5g, 5a) the only other players with at least 10 points. Michael Sullivan is 74-of-160 (.462) on faceoffs while goalkeeper Jonathan Anastos has started all seven games for Lafayette, posting a .472 save percentage and a 13.89 goals-against average.
Following Saturday's contest, the Terriers will begin a two-game road stretch at Lehigh on April 1.
