AMHERST, Mass. – The Boston University softball team had the go-ahead run at the plate in the final inning of both games at UMass but was unable to overcome multiple defensive miscues for a doubleheader loss on Thursday afternoon. The Minutewomen (10-14) scored three runs in the sixth inning twice to claim 6-4 and 3-1 victories, as the Terriers (8-20) stranded a pair of runners in the seventh of each contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass led off the second with a single against freshman Kali Magane and followed up with a sacrifice bunt and two-out RBI single to grab a 1-0 lead.
- The Minutewomen took advantage of a BU error with a two-out, two-RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
- BU mounted a comeback in the fourth, as junior Jilee Schanda led off with her second-career homer and sophomore Alex Heinen scored from second on a UMass error.
- Schanda came up big again in the fifth, as she drove a 2-2 pitch to right with two outs to plate senior Moriah Connolly, who earlier swiped her 99th-career bag.
- The tie was shortlived, as UMass scored three runs despite tallying just one hit due to BU committing a pair of errors.
- Senior Gabi Martinez led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and eventually scored on sophomore Alexa Ponce's one-out RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4.
- BU loaded the bases with two outs and had two runners on base with one out in the seventh, but Candace Denis got out of the jam both times by keep the ball in the infield all three times to claim the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After five scoreless innings, UMass scored three runs, including two unearned, against senior Makinna Akers off three hits and a BU error.
- Seniors Rachel Levine and Moriah Connolly led off with back-to-back singles before BU eventually loaded the bases with one out.
- The Terriers got on the board with the help of an RBI grounder by sophomore Alex Heinen but stranded two on base.
- Juniors Kaitlin Sahlinger and Emma Wong both hit a single in the seventh before moving into scoring position on a wild pitch with one out.
- Meg Colleran stopped the rally by inducing back-to-back infield groundouts.
