CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Seniors
Dominick Calisto and
Christian Carson-Banister of the Boston University men's lacrosse team each earned a weekly award from the Patriot League, as announced Tuesday.
Calisto was honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Week while Carson-Banister received recognition as Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week. Both Terriers were terrific in a pair of wins this past week.
Named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, Calisto has anchored the the fifth-best defense in the NCAA. On Tuesday, he caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls in a 12-9 win over Bryant. Calisto then matched a career high with six ground balls in addition to three caused turnovers in an 8-6 win over Air Force. BU has allowed just 7.0 goals per game this season thanks in part to Calisto, who ranks sixth in the Patriot League with 1.67 caused turnovers per game.
Carson-Banister is now a three-time PL Goalkeeper of the Week following two more spectacular performances. He made 17 saves, including seven in the fourth quarter, to help BU defeat Air Force on Saturday. He also stopped 12 shots and allowed just five even-strength goals against Bryant. Carson-Banister leads the nation in saves per game (13.5), is second in the country in save percentage (.669) and is third in the NCAA in goals-against average (6.87).
BU, ranked as high as 15th in the nation this week, will look to remain unbeaten when the Terriers travel to Colgate on Saturday.
