LOS ANGELES – A strong pitching performance from freshman Kali Magane and four hits by senior Gabi Martinez helped the Boston University softball team claim a doubleheader split at Loyola Marymount on Tuesday afternoon. The Terriers were undone by the Lions' four-run sixth in a 6-2 loss, but they then bounced back with a 3-1 victory that also featured sophomore Alex Heinen's team-leading fourth homer of the season.

TURNING POINT
- With the score tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Lions collected three hits against senior Makinna Akers, including a two-RBI single from Alicia Brown, and took advantage of three walks to jump out to a 6-2 lead.
- Sophomore Alex Heinen recorded BU's ninth hit against LMU in the seventh, but Andy Wellins prevented the Terriers from mounting a rally, as she pitched 2.2 scoreless innings for the victory.
THE SETUP
- Following a scoreless first, LMU earned a walk and single before loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch and scoring on a wild pitch from junior Sydni Overly.
- The Lions added another run against Overly on a lead-off homer in the third.
- Sophomore Alexa Ponce keyed the BU rally in the fourth byhitting a one-out single and eventually scoring from second on junior Emma Wong's two-out RBI single.
- Junior Jilee Schanda and sophomore Emily Morrow followed with back-to-back singles to tie the game at 2-2.
- Akers allowed just one single apiece in the third, fourth and fifth innings before the Lions' offense exploded with four runs in the sixth.

TURNING POINT
- With the score tied, 1-1, entering the fifth, sophomore Alex Heinen led off with a solo blast to give the Terriers the lead for good.
- The Lions loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half, but freshman Kali Magane induced a fly out to right to end the threat.
- Batting a perfect 3-of-3, senior Gabi Martinez had a one-out single in the seventh and scored an insurance run following a defensive miscue.
THE SETUP
- BU got on the board in the first inning when senior and reigning PL Player of the Week Moriah Connolly took first on a hit-by-pitch, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on senior Gabi Martinez's RBI single.
- The Lions followed with back-to-back two-out doubles in the bottom of the second to tie the game, but they would only manage three hits the rest of the way.
- Prior to her homer, Heinen walked in the third with one out and moved to second on Martinez's walk, but the Terriers were unable tto take the lead in the third due to a strikeout and ground out.
DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
- The game two victory snapped a three-game losing streak to the Lions, as LMU won last year's doubleheader at home, 3-1 and 6-5.
- Heinen now owns a team-high four homers through 16 games after totaling three total in 52 contests her freshman year.
- Magane has gone the distance in three of her five starts this season and has allowed just two combined runs in those three contests.

- The Terriers will have a quick turnaround on their spring break trip and open the Long Beach State tournament against Eastern Michigan on Thursday (March 9) at 12 p.m. ET.
