BOSTON – Coming off a three-game sweep over Patriot League rival Army West Point, the Boston University softball team will host a pair of non-conference opponents in midweek matchups, starting with UMass Lowell on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The defending PL champion Terriers will then welcome 2016 MAAC champion Marist to campus on Wednesday for a doubleheader with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU has claimed six wins in the last seven games following an eight-game losing streak and totaling eight wins through the first 28 games of the season.
  • Over the last seven contests, the Terriers are hitting .333 while holding opponents to a .228 average.
  • Senior Gabi Martinez has been on a tear, hitting .524 with four doubles and seven RBIs to grab the team lead at .349 for the season ... Both Martinez and Heinen (.291) have nine doubles apiece and have combined for 52 RBIs and 11 homers.
  • Sophomore Alexa Ponce (.299) and senior Rachel Levine (.255) have also stepped up combining for 13-of-29 (.448) with seven runs scored and seven RBIs.
  • Senior Moriah Connolly (.345) leads BU in hits (40), runs (36) and stolen bases (29).
  • Over the last seven games, freshman Kali Magane (8-8, 3.45 ERA) and senior Makinna Akers (6-7, 3.09 ERA) have totaled six starts and five complete-game efforts, allowing just six earned runs in 44 innings with the help of 26 strikeouts ... Over the weekend, they helped BU limit an opponent (Army) to just one run over three contests for the first time since 2012.
SCOUTING OPPONENTS

UMass Lowell, 15-17 (Tuesday, 4 p.m.)
  • The River Hawks are 11-14 away from home this season and are 7-3 in the America East ... They are coming off a series win at Binghamton in which they pulled out 7-6 (9) and 12-4 (5) victories with a 4-2 loss.
  • UML is hitting .297 as a team while holding opponents to .292 ... The River Hawks have been out-hit in homers, 34-21, and have only recorded seven stolen bases all season compared to opponents' 53 swiped bags.
  • Courtney Cashman is hitting a stellar .449 with 23 RBIs, 10 doubles, three homers and two triples with Tori Alcorn (.343, 4 HRs, 18 RBIs) and Madison Alcorn (.342, 15 RBIs) both hitting over .340 ... Sydney Barker (.263) leads UML with 26 RBIs.
  • The River Hawks' staff owns a 4.36 ERA ... Kaysee Talcik (6-8, 3.75 ERA) and Lauren Ramirez (6-8, 4.28 ERA) have combined for 126 strikeouts in 187.1 innings of work with Talcik recording two shutouts.
  • BU won last year's meeting at UML, 5-1, in eight innings with Connolly tying the game in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single against Talcik, who was one out away from a shutout ... The Terriers then added four runs off six hits in the eighth.
  • Two years ago at home, BU edged the River Hawks, 2-1, on a walk-off RBI double from junior Kaitlin Sahlinger.
Marist, 21-16 (Wednesday, 2 p.m. & 4 p.m.)
  • The defending MAAC champion Red Foxes are 16-13 away from home after going 45-13 overall last season ... They are 1-3 in their last four games after dropping a pair of one-run decisions at Quinnipiac (5-4, 3-2) and splitting at Holy Cross (3-9, 7-2).
  • Marist is hitting .281 and holding opponents to .248 ... The Red Foxes own a 22-11 advantage in homers and have posted a 57-26 advantage in stolen bases.
  • Gabriel Kelliher is one of five hitting over .300 at .323 with five homers and 16 RBIs ... Janna Korak (.314) owns 11 doubles, seven homers and a team-high 31 RBIs with Rebecca Freeman (.309, 5 HRs) close behind at 27.
  • Marist has had five pitchers record at least five starts apiece ... Jessica Van Alphen (7-3, 1.79 ERA) owns a team-high three shutouts and has started nine games alongside Jayne Oberdorf (3-3, 2.26 ERA) ... Kallen Leesberg (3-5, 2.80 ERA) is holding opposing batters to just .216 with team-high 58 strikeouts in 50.0 innings.
  • Last season at home, the Red Foxes used a combined four homers to claim a doubleheader sweep, 9-3 and 5-4 ... They used three homers in the first game to pull away early and then used a three-run walk-off homer to escape with another win in game two.
  • Marist will be making its first-ever trip to BU on Wednesday.
