Terriers Travel to Lafayette for PL Weekend Series

BOSTON – Riding a six-game win streak in Patriot League action, the Boston University softball team will resume conference play at Lafayette on Saturday with the doubleheader slated to begin at 12 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m. as well.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • After opening the PL with three losses at preseason favorite Lehigh by a combined score of 30-10, BU claimed six-straight wins against Army and Holy Cross by a combined score of 44-5 ... The Terriers though are looking to rebound this weekend after dropping three straight in non-conference play to UMass Lowell (4-2 / 9 inn.) and Marist (5-3, 8-2).
  • The Terriers are batting .263 overall and have increased that average to .336 in nine conference contests ... Senior Moriah Connolly is batting a team-high .333 with 33 stolen bases and 37 runs scored, and classmate Gabi Martinez (.328 avg) is batting a team-high .500 during PL play.
  • Sophomore Alex Heinen (.276 avg) has collected 13 of her team-high 30 RBIs against the PL with the help of two of her seven homers.
  • Junior Jilee Schanda (.316 avg) and sophomore Alexa Ponce (.283 avg) have both been on a tear over the past week, batting a combined 15-of-33 (.454) with eight RBIs and eight runs scored.
  • Freshman Kali Magane (8-10, 3.41 ERA) is holding opponents to a .279 average with a team-high 49 strikeouts in 115.0 innings ... Both she and senior Makinna Akers (6-8, 2.96 ERA) have combined for three shutouts against PL opponents.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
  • The Leopards are 3-8 at home this season and 3-9 in the Patriot League following last weekend's series win at Colgate in which they posted 8-0(5) and 2-1 victories with an 11-5 loss in-between the wins ... Besides edging La Salle (3-2) and St. Peter's (5-4) at home, Lafayette also handed Lehigh its lone loss in conference play so far, 3-1, after losing the first two contests, 4-1 and 18-0(5).
  • Lafayette is batting .189 this season with three homers, 18 stolen bases and 22 doubles.
  • Samantha Sweigart leads the Leopards at .289 with 12 runs and four RBIs ... Kristy Marinelli (.189) owns a team-high eight RBIs, while Miranda Skurla (.200) has five doubles.
  • The Leopards' four-player pitching staff is holding teams to .346 batting average ... Stephanie Thomas (4-4, 2.98 ERA) has gone the distance four times in eight starts while earning the team's lone shutout ... Stacy Gordon (2-8, 6.53 ERA) has a team-high 11 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU is 9-0 all-time against the Leopards since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
  • Last season, BU limited a visiting Lafayette to a combined 10 hits over 21 innings for the weekend sweep (5-0, 4-1, 6-0).
  • In 2014 at home, the Terriers jumped out to a 10-1 win and then held on for 2-1 and 3-1 victories ... In 2015 at Lafayette, BU posted a 12-2 victory in game one and then followed a hard-fought 3-2 victory with a 10-2 win.
