Gabi Martinez, the Boston University softball team extended its conference win streak to 11 games with a thrilling doubleheader sweep over Colgate on Saturday afternoon. With many alums in attendance, the Terriers improved to 20-25 overall and 11-3 in conference play while also clinching a top-two seed for the upcoming Patriot League tournament.
Senior pitcher
Makinna Akers limited the Raiders (12-27-1, 2-12 PL) to just three hits in four innings of relief for the 9-7 game-one 10-inning victory before recording six strikeouts in game two en route to a 6-1 win.

THE TURNING POINT
- Facing a 7-5 deficit in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Alex Heinen, sophomore Alexa Ponce and junior Emma Wong led off with three consecutive walks.
- Junior Kaitlin Sahlinger was hit by a pitch and sophomore Emily Morrow hit a sacrifice fly to left to send the game to extra innings.
- BU put the game away in the 10th with senior Moriah Connolly doubling to left, stealing and third and scoring on junior Jilee Schanda's two-run homer to left.
THE SETUP
- BU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI singles from Heinen and Ponce.
- After leaving a combined three runners on base through the first two innings, Colgate got to freshman Kali Magane with five runs off three hits, including a grand slam by Jordan Miller.
- Freshman Lizzie Annerino entered the circle in the fourth and kept the Raiders from adding more until the sixth when they used a pair of fly balls to plate Virginia Irby from second following her single and stolen base.
- Wong ignited BU's rally in the sixth with a one-out triple to left, as Colgate then recorded back-to-back errors.
- Connolly hit an RBI bunt single, and Schanda added a sacrifice fly to pull BU within one (6-5).
- Finishing with four hits in the game, Katie Bushee singled to center to push Colgate's advantage to 7-5 against senior Makinna Akers, but the Raiders were unable to add anymore the rest of the way.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the second consecutive game, the Terriers quickly struck first with two runs with the help of back-to-back singles from senior Moriah Connolly and junior Jilee Schanda, a Colgate error and sacrifice fly from senior Gabi Martinez.
- The Raiders made another miscue in the third on a hard-hit infield single by junior Emma Wong to allow sophomore Alexa Ponce to score from second.
- BU repaid Colgate with two errors in the sixth, as the Raiders broke up senior Makinna Akers' shutout bid.
- Senior Rachel Levine singled up the middle in the bottom half and Schanda added a two-out walk to set up Martinez's three-run homer to left for the 6-1 lead.
- Colgate tried to mount a rally during the seventh with a single and double, but Akers ended the threat by inducing a pair of infield lineouts along with one of our her six strikeouts.
NEXT UP
- The Terriers will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday (April 30) with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
- Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the Senior Day ceremony recognizing Akers, Connolly, Levine and Martinez will start at approximately 11:40 a.m.
