BOSTON – Resuming Patriot League action, the Boston University softball team will host Holy Cross over the weekend in a three-game series starting Saturday at 12 p.m. The teams will first battle for a point in the all-sports Turnpike Trophy competition in a doubleheader and then wrap up with a third game on Sunday at noon as well.

Winner of last year's Turnpike Trophy competition, BU currently leads Holy Cross, 13-1, in the standings after women's tennis claimed a 7-0 sweep back on March 2.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers have only managed to play one game at home (4-2 loss to Bryant) so far due to weather forcing the postponement of the Maine series and the change in location of a doubleheader with UMass ... Just this week alone, trips to Harvard and Providence were canceled by weather.
  • BU is currently 0-3 in the Patriot League after suffering a sweep at preseason favorite Lehigh two weeks ago.
  • The Terriers are batting .256 as a team while holding opponents to .311.
  • Senior Moriah Connolly leads at .359 avg with 24 stolen bases and just needs one more swiped bag to become the first in Patriot League history to reach 100 career stolen bases.
  • Both senior Gabi Martinez (.306) and sophomore Alex Heinen (.284) have 17 RBIs apiece and have combined for nine total homers.
  • Sophomore Alexa Ponce (.265) is the other Terrier with double-digit RBIs at 12 ... Junior Jilee Schanda (.265) and sophomore Emily Morrow (.260) have the other two homers for BU this season.
  • Senior Makinna Akers (4-6) leads the Terriers with a 3.52 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched ... Freshman Kali Magane (4-8, 4.32 ERA) has limited opposing batters to a team-low  .292 batting average.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
  • The Crusaders have a first-year head coach in Jen Lapicki, who was previously an assistant at Princeton from 2013-15 and at Iona in 2012 ... She was in the dugout at the 2012 NCAA Cal-Berkley Regional when the Terriers eliminated the Gaels, 4-3, in a 13-inning thriller.
  • HC is 3-4 over the last seven games with back-to-back wins at Army West Point ... The Crusaders bounced back from a 7-6 loss with 4-2 and 5-2 victories against the Black Knights ... HC also owns wins over Brown, Gardner-Webb and Hampton.
  • The Crusaders are batting .282 as a team and are holding opponents to .327 but have allowed more than double the walks earned, 76-37.
  • Taylor Wahler is one of four batting over .300 at .368 with a homer ... Taylor Moss (.322) owns 14 RBIs with Mandy McCarthy (.344) close behind at 10 RBIs ... Emily Krisanda has two of HC's four homers with nine RBIs.
  • Alexandra Held (3-5, 5.43 ERA), Katy Watson (1-9, 6.17 ERA) and Olivia Sloane (1-2, 7.77 ERA) all have at least five starts apiece ... Both Held and Watson own a save apiece.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 31-8, but the teams are tied at 5-5 over the last 10 meetings.
  • All nine PL games have taken place at Holy Cross after the 2015 series was moved there due to the BU Softball Field still recovering from the record snow fall.
  • In 2014, HC won the first two contests, 4-2 and 6-5 ... The Terriers responded with an 11-1 run-rule victory to help ignite a 13-game win streak en route to the NCAA tournament.
  • In 2015, the teams split the opening doubleheader with HC winning game one, 6-3 ... Terriers rebounded, 9-1, in six innings but lost the series after the Crusaders scored three in the first and seventh innings for an 8-4 game-three victory.
  • The Terriers bounced back in 2016 with a three-game sweep, featuring a no-hitter from Turnpike Trophy MVP Lauren Hynes ('16) ... BU claimed a 11-4, 1-0 and 4-3 victories to help set up another run to the NCAAs ... Jilee Schanda and Moriah Connolly both had five hits apiece in the weekend series.
