LEWISBURG, Pa. - Highlighted by four RBIs from sophomore Alex Heinen and a pair of strong pitching performances, the Boston University softball team wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader sweep at Bucknell on Sunday afternoon to extend its win streak to six games and the conference-win streak to 14 contests.
After holding off a late charge from Bucknell (23-20, 6-11 PL) for the 4-3 game-one victory, the Terriers (23-25, 14-3 PL) posted a 4-2 game-two win to set a program record for Patriot League wins. BU had a chance at a 15th win, but since Lehigh clinched sole possession of the regular season title and Bucknell was already eliminated from participating in the upcoming conference tournament, the third game of the weekend series was canceled.
Heinen led the offense by going a combined 3-of-5 with four RBIs, while reigning two-time PL Player of the Week Jilee Schanda went 3-of-7 with two triples and two runs scored. Both senior Makinna Akers and freshman Kali Magane went the distance in the circle and did not allow an earned run in 14 innings of work with the help of 10 combined strikeouts.
