
Men's Ice Hockey Readies for Trip to UNH on Friday

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will leave Massachusetts for the first time since Thanksgiving weekend when it visits New Hampshire on Friday (Jan. 12) for a Hockey East contest against the Wildcats. Game time at the Whittemore Center is set for 7 p.m.
The Terriers (8-11-1, 6-7-1 Hockey East) will look to rebound from a 3-0 loss to now-No. 20 Maine on Saturday. UNH (9-9-2, 4-5-1 HEA) is on a five-game winless streak (0-4-1) and is coming off a 4-4 home draw with Maine.
In a series that dates back over 90 years, BU and UNH have played 180 times and the Terriers hold a decided advantage, 107-52-21 (.653). BU is undefeated in the past six meetings (4-0-2) with UNH and has been victorious in 13 of the past 21 (13-6-2). The Terriers are 13-11-6 in 30 all-time visits to the Whittemore Center since opening the building on Nov. 10, 1995.Senior forward Michael McNicholas leads the squad in both points (19) and assists (14).
The teams met back on Nov. 11 with the Terriers posting a 4-0 win thanks to a 29-save shutout by redshirt sophomore Max Prawdzik in his first collegiate start. Freshman Ty Amonte opened the scoring before sophomore Dante Fabbro and juniors Jordan Greenway and Bobo Carpenter all added goals. BU held a 31-29 shot advantage and both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
Senior forward Michael McNicholas leads the Wildcats in both points (19) and assists (14).A pair of freshman defensemen has made an quick impact on the UNH lineup as Max Gildon has 15 points, including a team-best seven goals and Benton Maass has added 13 points (2g, 11a). Sophomore Liam Blackburn has contributed 15 points on six goals and nine assists and is tied with classmate Brendan van Riemsdyk for the team lead in plus-minus at plus-10.
Senior Daniel Tirone has started in goal for all 20 of UNH's games and boasts a 2.62 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
Dick Umile is in his 28th and final season as head coach at his alma mater and is closing in on 600 career wins (595-362-110).
The Terriers have scored 60 goals and also allowed 60 through 20 games this season. UNH also has 60 goals in 20 games.
Seven BU players have scored 12 points or more with sophomore Patrick Harper leading the way with 21 on eight goals and 13 assists. Carpenter (9g, 8a) and Krys (5g, 13a) have contributed 18 points apiece while Greenway is right behind them with 17 (7g, 10a). Freshman forwards Shane Bowers (8g, 6a) and Brady Tkachuk (4g, 10a) have contributed to the offense as rookies with 14 points each.
Sophomore netminder Jake Oettinger is coming off a solid 34-save performance in the loss to Maine and currently sports a 2.91 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage
BU will return to Agganis Arena on Saturday (Jan. 13) when it hosts No. 11 Providence at 5 p.m.
