HANOVER, N.H. – Competing in its dual season opener, the Boston University women's tennis team fell at Dartmouth, 5-2, on Wednesday evening.

MATCH NOTES

• BU won at least two points against Dartmouth for the first time since a 4-3 loss in 2014 ... The Big Green had earn a 7-0 sweep each of the last three years.
• Dartmouth won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 18-7 and then captured four singles points, including three in straight sets.
• BU's lone senior, Iryna Kostirko, battled valiantly against the ITA's No. 78 nationally-ranked Kristina Mathis but was broken one too many times in each set for a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 loss.
• Freshman Katya Martens only dropped five games in a dominating victory at line 5.
• Freshman Lily Burchell rallied from a set down in the No. 4 slot to force a super tiebreaker and eventually prevailed, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.
• Classmate Emily Kim also forced a super tiebreaker but came up just short, 10-3, at line 3. 

NEXT UP

• The Terriers will head home to host Liberty at the Track & Tennis Center on Sunday (Jan. 21) with a 10 a.m. start time.
• BU last edged Liberty, 4-3, in California during its 2016 Spring Break trip.
