Terriers Downed at Bucknell, 67-57

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Despite a 29-point effort from the bench, the Boston University women's basketball could not overcome the defending Patriot League champion, falling 67-57 to Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Sojka Pavilion.
 
How it Happened
  • Bucknell opened the game with a 7-0 run, hitting three of its first four shots.
  • BU answered with a 7-2 run, led by a 4-for-4 effort from the charity stripe to make it a one-possession game after two free throws from Sophie Beaudry with 2:36 left in the first.  
  • The Bison found their stroke again as they snapped a pair of 3-pointers to close out the opening stanza, holding the scoreboard in its favor at 20-11.
  • Payton Hauck kicked off the second with three straight dribble-drives to the hole to put the score at 26-17 with 6:29 left before the break.
  • Nia Irving and Corrine Williams combined for the final seven points for the Terriers to close out the first half, though the Bison held a 35-25 advantage heading into the locker room.
  • Hauck and Irving opened the third with a pair of layups through traffic, trimming the deficit to 35-29.
  • The Terriers' bench provided 12 of their 14 points in the third quarter, though the Bison grabbed a 39-48 lead heading into the fourth.
  • BU opened the final quarter with a 5-2 run to come within seven at 51-44, but Bucknell swung a 5-2 run of its own to go back up by 10.
  • Katie Nelson exploded for 11 points in the fourth quarter, including nine from beyond-the-arc, but BU could not come closer than a seven-point deficit as it fell by a final score of 67-57.
Game Notes
  • BU's bench outscored the starting lineup for the third time over the last five games.
  • Hauck tabbed 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, reaching double-digit scoring figures for the eighth time this season.
  • Nelson matched Hauck with 14 points, hitting on 4-of-6 from the floor in the second half.
  • Bucknell extended its winning streak to nine games against the Terriers.
