Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at Dartmouth, 64-44

HANOVER, N.H. – Kicking off a four-game road trip to close out non-conference play, the Boston University women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak snapped, as Dartmouth handed the Terriers a 64-44 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Leede Arena.

Freshman Riley Childs was spectacular in her first career start, pouring in a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Additionally, the rookie led all players with three blocks.

How It Happened
  • The Big Green used a 6-0 run to take an early 11-5 lead before Lauren Spearman drilled her second 3-pointer to snap the streak.
  • Katie Nelson and Chiara Tibbitt combined for the next five points, cutting the deficit to 20-15 at the end of the first.
  • Tibbtit converted on an and-1 to start the second quarter and Naiyah Thompson followed with a drive through the lane to tie the game at 20-all with eight minutes left until the break.
  • Dartmouth churned a 6-0 run to reclaim the upper hand until Childs came up with a steal and went the distance, and Thompson drove through the lane once again to put BU within two possessions, 28-24.
  • However, the Big Green answered with a 6-2 streak to take a 34-26 lead heading into the locker room.
  • Dartmouth took a 12-point advantage to open the second half before Childs brought BU back within striking distance with eight straight points to make it a 46-38 game.
  • Once again, the Big Green came out firing to start a quarter, whizzing an 8-0 run over the first two minutes of the fourth.
  • Childs stayed hot, connecting from deep for her 17th point of the afternoon, but Dartmouth outscored BU 17-5 in the frame to seal the result.
Game Notes
  • Along with Childs, freshman Chiara Tibbitt earned her first career start.
  • Wednesday marked the first time two rookies have cracked the starting lineup since BU hosted Marist on Dec. 12, 2015, when then-freshmen Hauck and Thompson started.
  • Childs scored eight of BU's 13 points in the third quarter, while the Terriers scored 10 points in that frame off turnovers.
  • Payton Hauck led the team with six rebounds.
  • BU struggled finding its shooting rhythm, connecting on just 31.5 percent for the game.
Up Next
  • BU will close out its road-trip with three straight games in The Bay State, starting Dec. 12 against UMass.
  • Opening tip from the Mullins Center is set for 7 p.m.
