The BU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold its 14th annual Teddy Bear Toss at Friday's game. Teddy bears will be sold at the game for $10 each with all proceeds donated to local pediatric charities. Fans are also allowed to bring new stuffed animals to the game to throw onto the ice during the second intermission.
The Terriers (4-7-2, 4-4-2 Hockey East) will look to shake a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) after taking one point last weekend in its home-and-home weekend with archrival Boston College.
The River Hawks (7-6-1, 3-3-1 Hockey East) are playing for the first time since Nov. 25, when they posted a 5-2 win at Rensselaer to earn a weekend split with the Engineers. UMass Lowell has been a game within .500 all season long.
BU is 74-30-9 (.695) in 113 all-time meetings with the River Hawks. Lowell, however, is 11-6-1 in the past 18 meetings and 12 of BU's 30 losses in the all-time series have occurred since the start of the 2011-12 season. The Terriers are 12-6-3 in the 21 games that have taken place at Agganis Arena.
The teams split their regular-season series each of the past three seasons with the home team winning all six contests. During this weekend last December, BU dropped a 3-2 contest at Tsongas Center before rebounding with a 9-3 home victory the following night.
Junior Ryan Lohin leads Lowell in points (11) and goals (6) while classmate Kenny Hausinger is right behind with 10 points on five goals and five assists. Eleven other River Hawks, including four freshmen, have at least five points on the year to contribute to their balanced attack.
Junior Tyler Wall has returned to his form from his rookie season and currently boasts a league-leading 1.80 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage that ranks second in Hockey East.
Junior defenseman Dante Fabbro continues to lead the Terriers in points this season with 12 on three goals and nine assists. Fellow co-captain Bobo Carpenter has nine points, including a team-best six goals, while junior Chad Krys (3g, 5a) and freshman Joel Farabee (3g, 4a) have contributed eight and seven points, respectively.
Coming off his 10th career shutout, junior Jake Oettinger has a 1.63 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage over his past three contests.
