Terriers Defeat Dartmouth, 10-4

BOSTON – Sophomore Joe McSorley made 11 saves and freshman Chris Gray matched a career high with five points to help lead the Boston University men's lacrosse team to a 10-4 win over Dartmouth on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU (2-1) held to a 2-0 lead just 6:59 into the proceedings thanks to a pair of goals by senior Jack Wilson.
  • After Dartmouth (1-1) responded to cut the lead to 2-1, Gray found senior Ryan Hilburn cutting through the middle to bring the lead back to two.
  • Then, with just 1:22 left in the quarter, sophomore Brendan Homire fed junior James Burr to make it 4-1.
  • Burr scored the lone goal of the second quarter with 9:37 on the clock, as both teams played tough defense.
  • The teams traded goals in the third quarter, with Burr finding Homire for the Terrier strike, to create a 6-2 lead entering the final frame.
  • BU erupted for four goals in the final frame, with senior Hayden Ruiz factoring on three of them.
  • Ruiz scored just 54 seconds into the quarter before assisting on one of Gray's two goals of the stanza. Ruiz also found Burr for the junior's second strike of the contest.
  • McSorley made two spectacular stops in a row on back-to-back point-blank chances during the fourth quarter to cap off the best performance of his collegiate career.
  • Senior Colin MacDougall played the final 2:15 between the pipes and stopped both shots he saw.

MCSORLEY MAGNIFICENT ON TUESDAY

  • In the best start of his collegiate career, sophomore Joe McSorley was a big reason for the Terriers' win.
  • He made 11 saves, including seven in the second half to help the Terriers improve upon their four-goal halftime lead.
  • McSorley also forced a turnover and grabbed one ground ball.

DEFENSE DOMINANT, TOO

  • The Terrier defense joined McSorley in holding Dartmouth to just four goals, matching the lowest output by a Terrier opponent in program history.
  • BU held Lehigh to four goals in last year's Patriot League quarterfinal contest, also a 10-4 victory.
  • The starting close defense unit of senior Isaac Lipton, freshman Malcolm Glendinning and junior Quintin Germain combined for five ground balls and one caused turnover.
  • Dartmouth scored just twice in the game's first 54:00 and went 23:46 between its first goal and its second goal.

WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT

  • Wilson moved his point streak to 46 games thanks to a pair of goals.
  • He has only been held without a point once in his entire career.
  • In those 46 games, Wilson has tallied 76 goals and 46 assists for 122 points.
  • Wilson has scored five goals in the last two games.

TERRIERS TERRIFIC AT THE X
