The Boston University men's lacrosse team will open Patriot League on Saturday afternoon when the Terriers host Navy at Nickerson Field for Military Appreciation Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

ANOTHER CLASSIC ON TAP?

  • BU has won the last two meetings with Navy, and both games have been decided in dramatic fashion.
  • Last time at Nickerson Field in 2016, Sam Talkow tied the game with less than a minute to play before James Burr scored the game-winner in double overtime.
  • Last season in Annapolis, the Terriers went coast-to-coast in less than 13 seconds, with Jack Wilson eventually scoring with 1.5 ticks on the clock to secure an 8-7 victory.

SCOUTING THE MIDS

  • Navy is 1-2, though the one win came this past Saturday as the Mids earned a 7-5 home win over UMBC.
  • Greyson Torain is one of three players with three goals, and he also has three assists for six points.
  • Christian Daniel and Ryan Wade each have a team-high four assists, with Daniel adding two goals to tie for the points lead with Torain.
  • Jeff Durden leads the Mids in both ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (3).
  • Joe Varello has played in the last two games and has been superb at the faceoff X.
  • Varello has won 24 of the 33 draws he has taken (72.7%) this season.
  • Ryan Kern has played all 180 minutes in the cage for Navy, posting a 9.00 goals-against average and a .526 save percentage.

HOME SWEET HOME

  • BU has been outstanding at home since the start of the 2017 season, going 9-1 at Nickerson Field.
  • The Terriers are a perfect 5-0 against non-conference opponents at home in that stretch, including Tuesday's 10-4 victory over Dartmouth.
  • BU has averaged 11.0 goals per game at home since the start of last year and has held opponents to just 8.3 goals per game.

MAN-DOWN DEFENSE DOING WORK

  • The Terriers are a perfect 6-for-6 in man-down situations this year.
  • They are one of six teams in the country and just two teams in the Patriot League to remain perfect against EMOs this year.

NEXT UP: BRYANT

  • BU will head to Smithfield, Rhode Island, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, to face Bryant.
  • Game time is 7 p.m.
