Terriers Outlast Colgate in Overtime, 66-64

BOSTON – Nia Irving netted three straight baskets in the final two minutes of overtime to lead the Boston University women's basketball team to a regular season series sweep against Colgate, 66-64, Wednesday night at Case Gym.
 
How it Happened
  • Both teams struggled from the floor to open the game, as Colgate held a slim 5-2 lead before Katie Nelson knotted the score with a 3-pointer with 4:45 left in the first.
  • The Raiders reeled off the next four points, though Nelson connected again from beyond-the-arc and Tenisha Pressley came up with a steal and coast-to-coast finish to guide BU to a 10-9 advantage as the opening quarter came to a close.
  • Pressley stay hot to start the second quarter, sparking a 12-5 run to further the lead to 24-17 with 3:36 left before halftime.
  • Colgate responded with a 5-2 streak, though BU controlled the scoreboard heading into the intermission, 26-22. 
  • The Raiders continued the control the momentum to start the second half, converting on an and-1 to cap a 6-2 run that knotted the score at 28-all with 7:16 remaining in the frame.
  • Nia Irving, Sophie Beaudry and Payton Hauck combined for the next six points for BU, cushioning its command back to four, 34-30, midway through the third.
  • Pressley erupted for six straight points down the stretch, directing the Terriers to stake a 40-36 advantage heading into the fourth.
  • Beaudry gave BU its largest lead of the game, 45-36, with 7:42 left the game.
  • Colgate became red hot from the floor, turning in a 12-2 run to tie the game up at 47-47 with 5:04 left on the clock.
  • BU and the Raiders exchanged free throws, as the score held at a stalemate with 2:36 remaining, 52-52.
  • The Raiders connected on back-to-back tough layups to take a four-point lead with 28 seconds left in regular.
  • Nelson drilled a 3-pointer with 7.4 ticks left and came up with a steal on the ensuing Colgate possession.
