The No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team will face its first road test on Saturday when the Terriers travel to Columbus, Ohio for a date with No. 7/8 Ohio State. Game time against the 2017 national runner-up is set for 12 p.m.
NOT THEIR FIRST INDOOR CONTEST
- The Terriers will be playing indoors at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Saturday.
- This is the second time that BU has ever played a game indoors, though it's the first scheduled indoor game in program history.
- The first time came in 2015 when inclement weather forced the team's home opener against Mercer to move to the Harvard Stadium Bubble.
- BU won that game, 18-6.
RECORD AGAINST RANKED FOES
- BU is 5-15 all-time against ranked teams but is still in search of its first win against a top-10 foe.
- Ohio State is the sixth top-10 program that the Terriers have faced in four-plus seasons.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
- Ohio State, the 2017 national runner-up, returns four of its top six scorers and all three of its starters on close defense.
- Senior defender Ben Randall was named an Inside Lacrosse preseason First Team All-American after earning first-team distinction from the USILA last year.
- Sophomore Tre Leclaire earned third-team honors at the end of last year and was also an Inside Lacrosse preseason Third Team All-American.
- Leclaire scored 49 goals last year, a program record for a rookie.
HOW DID OHIO STATE START 2018?
- The Buckeyes began their season last Saturday with a 13-6 win at Cleveland State.
- Senior John Kelly (4g) and sophomore Tre Leclaire (3g, 1a) each had four points against Cleveland State.
- Freshman Justin Inacio (6-of-9) and sophomore Christian Feliziani (10-of-12) shared time in the faceoff X and combined to win 16 of 21 draws.
- Feliziani was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week for his efforts.
- Senior goalie Matthew Smidt made seven saves to earn his fourth career win.
LEVESQUE, MCSORLEY EARN PL HONORS
- Two Terriers earned their first-ever Patriot League weekly awards on Monday, as sophomore Chase Levesque was named Defensive Player of the Week and Joe McSorley was selected as the league's Goalkeeper of the Week.
- Levesque matched his career high with six ground balls and also set a new career best with three caused turnovers.
- His last caused turnover came with just over a minute remaining in regulation and the Terriers trailing by a goal, as he forced a Providence giveaway and picked up the loose ball to set up his team's game-tying possession.
- Making his first collegiate start, McSorley stopped 12 shots, including seven in the second half and five in the third quarter.
- McSorley also recorded five ground balls and caused one turnover.
WELCOME TO COLLEGE LACROSSE, Chris Gray
- Freshman Chris Gray shined in his collegiate debut, securing five points on two goals and three assists, including the helper on John MacLean's game-winner.
- Despite that performance, which matched Jack Wilson and Ryan Hilburn's record for points in a Terrier debut, Gray did not earn the league's Rookie of the Week Award.
- Only one other freshman in the country scored five points this past weekend.
WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL
- Sophomore midfielder John MacLean scored a career-high four goals in Saturday's OT win.
- His most important goal came in overtime, as he went low to high for the winner.
- That goal was part of an impressive 4-of-6 shooting performance.
- MacLean immediately built upon his fantastic freshman season in which he scored 16 goals and added 11 assists for 27 points.
USILA RECOGNIZES PAIR OF TERRIERS
- Sophomores Chase Levesque and John MacLean were named to the USILA Team of the Week on Monday.
- Levesque led BU defensively with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- MacLean paced the offense with four of the team's 12 goals, including the game-winner in overtime.
NEXT UP: DARTMOUTH
- The Terriers will have some time off, as their next game won't be until Tuesday, Feb. 20, when they welcome Dartmouth to Nickerson Field at 7 p.m.
