Terriers Compete at David Hemery Invite

RESULTS

BOSTON -
 The Boston University women's track & field team continued their indoor season when they hosted the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. The meet was the team's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships next weekend.

The Terriers had several strong performances including sophomore Leah Fowlkes who took 12th in the 400m dash (55.87) which is the top time in the Patriot League and sophomore Gillian Morrison who finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.33) in a field of 32.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 
  • Sophomore Leah Fowlkes competed in the 400m dash and finished 14th (10th among collegians) with an excellent time of 55.87 in a large field of 154. Fowlkes' time is currently the best in the Patriot League in the 400. In the same event, junior Jordan Coverson took 19th with a time of 56.34, a new personal best.
  • Sophomore Gillian Morrison competed in the 60m hurdles and finished fourth with a time of 9.33 while senior Christie Molloy finished sixth (9.48) in a field of 32.
  • Later in the meet, Morrison took second in the long jump with a 5.41m (17' 9") effort, a new personal best.
  • Freshman Cecelia Gerstenbacher competed in the 60m dash (invitational) and finished 12th with a time of 7.81 in a field of 27.
  • Freshman Laura Parkinson competed in the 1000m run and finished 27th with an excellent time of 2:56:9.
  • Senior Paige Ferrucci competed in the 1-mile and finished with a time of 5:02.77, a new personal best.
  • Junior Ebony Brown competed in the 200m dash and finished 35th with a time of 25.28 in a field of 207.
  • Junior Alicia Huerta finished the 3000m run with a time of 10:10.68, a new personal best.
  • Freshman Corinne Batsu competed in the 5000m run and finished with a time of 18:07.87.
  • In the field, freshman Bridget Bishop took 10th in the shot put with a 12.50m (41' .25") effort.
  • Sophomore Sarah Chow finished fifth in the pole vault with a 3.36m (11' .25") vault.
CHESEREK BREAKS 3:50 IN THE MILE
  • During Friday's competition, Edward Cheserek became just the fourth person ever to break 3:50 in the indoor mile. "King Ches", now a professional runner for Skechers, competed in a special section of the mile and finished with a time of 3:49.44. Cheserek joined Hicham El Guerrouj, Eamonn Coghlan, and Bernard Lagat as the only people to crack the 3:50 mark indoors. He also broke Galen Rupp's facility record of 3:50.94 set back in 2013. Cheserek's mile stands as the fastest mile run in the world this year by over five seconds.
OTHER NOTABLES
  • Taking the track just after Cheserek, Elinor Purrier of the University of New Hampshire kept the crowd on its feet by running the second-fastest collegian women's mile ever with a time of 4:10.21.   
UP NEXT
The Boston University men's track & field team will compete in Day 2 of the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following this weekend's competition, the track & field teams will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. and compete at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell on Feb. 16-18.
