Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Terriers Defeated by Colgate, 16-9

BOSTON – Freshman Chris Gray matched his career high with five points, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Colgate, 16-9, on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU (4-3, 0-2 PL) got off to a great start, going 3-of-4 at the faceoff X en route to a 3-0 lead.
  • Gray opened the scoring with 9:19 on the clock thanks to an assist from junior James Burr. Then, with 5:38 to play in the frame, senior Hayden Ruiz connected with sophomore John MacLean.
  • Senior Jack Wilson extended his point streak to 50 games with his 12th goal of the season in the final seconds of the opening quarter. Sophomore Joe McSorley (eight saves) fielded an errant pass and then quickly dished it to MacLean. The midfielder ran into the Colgate box and then passed it to a wide-open Wilson in front of the crease. Wilson quickly converted with 13.5 seconds on the clock.
  • Colgate (4-3, 1-2 PL) scored twice to start the second quarter before Ruiz found Gray to push the BU lead back to two at 4-2.
  • The Raiders tallied four straight goals to end the second quarter with a 6-4 lead, and then they continued that run with two additional markers to open up the third frame.
  • Gray capitalized on a man-up chance to cut the deficit to 8-5, but three more Colgate goals put the game out of reach.
  • BU got some momentum late in the fourth quarter as junior Brendan Homire and Burr each scored to make it a 13-8 game, but Colgate scored three of the final four goals of the contest.
  • Ruiz notched the final Terrier goal with 3:06 remaining in regulation.
GRAY CONTINUES HIS TERRIFIC DEBUT SEASON
  • For the third time this season, Gray tallied five points.
  • His most recent five-point game came in a 10-4 win against Dartmouth on Feb. 20, one in which he also recorded a hat trick and two assists.
  • Gray leads the Terriers in both assists (13) and points (24).
FIFTY STRAIGHT GAMES WITH A POINT FOR WILSON
  • Wilson moved his point streak to 50 games thanks to his 12th goal of the year.
  • He has only been held without a point once in his entire career.
  • In those 50 games, Wilson has tallied 83 goals and 51 assists for 134 points.
  • Wilson, named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, has scored 12 goals in the last five games.
