CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore
Joe McSorley of the Boston University men's lacrosse team was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
McSorley was magnificent in a pair of road wins this past week. On Tuesday at Bryant, he matched his career high with 13 saves and also recorded three ground balls in an 8-7 overtime victory. He then stopped nine shots and allowed just seven goals in a 15-9 triumph at Air Force on Saturday. For the week, McSorley posted a .611 save percentage and a 7.30 goals-against average.
The Forest Hill, Maryland, native has been outstanding in his first season as the Terriers' starting netminder. He ranks first in the Patriot League and 12th in the NCAA with a save percentage of .569, and he is also 10th in the nation and tops in the conference with an average of 11.67 saves per game. He has not allowed 10 or more goals in each of the last four games and has made at least 10 saves in all but one contest this season.
This is the second time this year that McSorley has been selected as the league's Goalkeeper of the Week. He also earned the honor on Feb. 5.
BU will return to Patriot League play on Saturday when the Terriers host Colgate at Nickerson Field.
