BALTIMORE – Senior Jack Wilson notched a season-high five points, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 23-9 setback at No. 9/10 Loyola Maryland on Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Loyola (9-3, 6-1 PL) scored the first three goals of the game before Wilson opened the Terriers' account with his 24th goal of the year to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 10:30 to go in the opening frame.
- Freshman Chris Gray got on the board right after Loyola took a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Chase Levesque picked up the ground ball off the ensuing faceoff and quickly found Gray with a pass. Gray dodged right past his defender and then ripped a shot inside the right post.
- Junior James Burr closed the first-quarter scoring to cut the Loyola advantage to 6-3 after 15 minutes.
- Sophomore John MacLean ripped home his 20th goal of the season on the Terriers' first man-up chance of the contest to make it a 6-4 game, but Loyola answered right back to regain a three-goal edge less than five minutes into the second stanza.
- BU (6-7, 2-5 PL) got within one thanks to two goals in a 15-second span from Burr and senior Ryan Hilburn, but Loyola took a 9-6 lead into halftime thanks in part to a goal at the buzzer.
- Loyola tallied three straight goals to open up a 12-6 lead early in the third quarter.
- Wilson broke up that run with his second goal of the contest, but the Greyhounds rattled off seven straight goals to make it 19-7 after three quarters.
- Gray added his second goal of the day early in the fourth quarter,
- Junior Brendan Homire closed the scoring with his seventh goal of the season late in the final frame.
WILSON EXTENDS POINT STREAK
- Wilson moved his point streak to 56 games with his five-point day (2g, 3a).
- He has only been held without a point once in his entire career.
- In those 56 games, Wilson has tallied 96 goals and 58 assists for 154 points.
- Wilson has tallied 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points this year.
- He has found the back of the net in 11 of the last 12 contests.
GAME NOTES
- Gray has notched a point in all 13 games this season (22g, 32a).
- Burr has found the back of the net in all 13 games. He has notched 33 goals this season, and Saturday marked the 11th time that he has scored at least two goals in a game.
- Sophomore Joe McSorley finished with 10 saves.
- Senior Colin MacDougall started the fourth quarter between the pipes and made three saves.
- Senior Tommy Connelly played the final three minutes of the contest. He stopped the lone shot he saw and also picked up a ground ball.
- The Terriers scored on their only man-up chance of the contest to improve to 58.8% on the season.
