Terriers Defeated at No. 4/5 Duke, 13-9

DURHAM, N.C. – The Boston University men's lacrosse team closed its 2018 season with a 13-9 loss to No. 4/5 Duke on Sunday at Koskinen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • BU (8-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 3:04 into the proceedings thanks to goals from junior James Burr and senior Jack Wilson.
  • Duke (13-3) tied the game, 2-2, at the end of the quarter and then continued its 8-0 run in the second stanza to grab an 8-2 lead at halftime.
  • Senior Ryan Hilburn opened the third quarter with a goal but Duke responded to make it 11-3 late in the quarter.
  • The Terriers went on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to five thanks to a pair of goals from Burr and sophomore Chase Levesque's second strike of the season.
  • Two more Duke markers pushed its lead back to seven, but the Terriers finished with the final three goals of the contest.
  • Graduate student Brian Badgett scored his second goal of the season off a feed from freshman Kevin Snyder.
  • Senior Hayden Ruiz then fed Wilson to make it a 13-8 contest.
  • Wilson assisted on Burr's fourth and final goal of the game with 1:27 remaining in regulation.

WILSON FINISHES WITH 60 STRAIGHT

  • Wilson concluded his impressive collegiate career with a 60-game point streak.
  • He has only been held without a point once in his entire career. 
  • In those 60 games, Wilson has tallied 101 goals and 61 assists for 162 points.
  • Wilson has tallied 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 points this year.

BURR WITH THE HOT HAND

  • Burr finished 2018 with 45 goals, which is a single-season program record.
  • He has tallied at least one goal in every game and at least two goals in 15 of the Terriers' 17 contests.
  • Burr has added 11 assists for 56 points, which is good for second on the squad and is a career high.

GAME NOTES

  • Freshman Sean Christman went 16-of-24 at the faceoff X and won nine ground balls.
  • Christman won 69.3 percent of his faceoffs over the Terriers' final two games (34-of-49).
  • Junior Quintin Germain finished the game with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Nicholas Ellerton added a caused turnover and two ground balls of his own.
  • Senior Isaac Lipton tallied two ground balls and finished his final season with a career-best 52 ground balls.
  • Sophomore Joe McSorley made 11 saves for the Terriers.
  • Senior Colin MacDougall also recorded a save while classmate Tommy Connelly also saw time in the cage and had one caused turnover.
  • This was the first time freshman Chris Gray was held without a point this season.
