NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Redshirt junior Sammy Davis' extra-attacker goal with 1:03 remaining in regulation secured a 3-3 tie for the No. 10 Boston University women's ice hockey team at Merrimack on Saturday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
Davis' 17th goal of the season helped BU (14-6-6, 11-5-5 WHEA) extend its unbeaten streak to seven games and take three of four points from Merrimack (14-9-3, 10-8-2 WHEA) on the weekend. Sophomores Jesse Compher and Nara Elia each secured their second assist of the day on Davis' game-tying marker.
Sophomore Kristina Schuler notched her third goal of the weekend while junior Abby Cook also lit the lamp. Davis added an assist for a two-point day and junior Deziray De Sousa recorded her third assist of the weekend. Sophomore Corinne Schroeder made 27 saves for the Terriers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mikyla Grant-Mentis opened the scoring for Merrimack just 3:15 into the proceedings.
- Schuler answered for the Terriers at 15:34 of the frame. De Sousa cleared the puck out of the defensive zone for Elia, who rushed up the left wing to create a 2-on-1 with Schuler. Elia lifted the puck over the defender's stick and right to the tape of Schuler, who beat Samantha Ridgewell (35 saves) for the equalizer.
- Cook capitalized on the Terriers' first power-play opportunity of the game with 1:03 to play in the period. Compher and Davis worked the puck to Cook, who walked to the top of the zone and uncorked a seeing-eye wrist shot past Ridgewell for her seventh goal of the season.
- The Warriors responded with the first goal of the second stanza to tie the game, 2-2, and followed with a marker at 5:11 of the third period to take a 3-2 lead.
- Davis equalized with 1:03 left on the clock thanks to some hard work in front of the net. Compher collected the puck in the corner and fired it towards Elia at the front of the net. Ridgewell denied Elia's attempt, but Davis crashed the net and pushed home the rebound for her 17th goal of the season.
- Merrimack earned its fourth power play chance of the game in overtime, but the Terriers kept the Warriors at bay to preserve the draw.
