BOSTON – The Boston University men's basketball team will conclude its six-game road trip on Saturday against former America East foe Binghamton with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
BU is coming off back-to-back heartbreaking losses to George Washington (64-63) and UT Martin (76-73), while the Bearcats are trying to bounce back from losses to Patriot League members Loyola Maryland (77-65) and Colgate (82-74).
The matchup will mark a family reunion for BU junior
Andrew Petcash and his brother Dan, a freshman guard with the Bearcats. Both men reached over 1,100 points apiece at Pine-Richland H.S. in Pittsburgh.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers are 1-1 so far against the America East with 84-70 home win against New Hampshire and 62-47 loss at defending AE champion Vermont.
- BU is 1-3 in true road games this year with the lone win a 78-70 victory at South Carolina ... Wednesday's one-point defeat was BU's first since suffering a 63-62 loss in 2015 at home to Lafayette.
- Sophomore Walter Whyte remains the team leader in scoring at 13.1 ppg with senior Max Mahoney close behind at 11.7 ppg.
- Mahoney posted 17 points against the Colonials and now ranks No. 22 all-time with 1,137 points at BU ... He leads BU in rebounding at 6.9 rpg, just ahead of Whyte (5.8 rpg).
- Sophomore Alex Vilarino (8.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg) nearly had a triple-double at GW with eight points, career-high seven assists and career-tying seven rebounds.
- Head coach Joe Jones has used the same starting line-up through the first nine games of the season for the first time with junior Javante McCoy (8.7 ppg) and sophomore Jonas Harper (7.4 ppg) joining the three previously mentioned men.
- The Terriers are averaging 66.9 and 43.5 FG% while holding opponents to 69.3 ppg and 45.1 FG%.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
- Binghamton is 1-2 overall this year against the PL with a 88-73 home win vs. Army.
- Returning just two scholarship players from last year's team, the Bearcats are 3-1 at home with the loss to Colgate and wins against both Sacred Heart (76-72) and SUNY Oneonta (90-69).
- Four Bearcats are averaging double figures with 2019 AE Rookie of the Year and 6-foot-0 guard Sam Sessoms averaging 18.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 4.8 apg.
- Freshman and 6-foot-6 George Tinsley is next at 12.4 ppg and 9.4 rpg.
- Binghamton is averaging 71.6 ppg and 41.5 FG% while holding opponents to 78.6 ppg and 46.6 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 22-5 all-time in a series that dates back to 2001-02 and is currently riding a 10-game win streak.
