Women's Tennis Triumphs Over Rhode Island, 5-2

BOSTON – Concluding a two-match homestand, the Boston University women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 victory against Rhode Island on Friday afternoon at the Track & Tennis Center.

The Terriers (2-1) won the top two doubles matches by a combined score of 12-4 and then captured four singles points in straight sets to defeat the Rams (1-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Remi Ramos and sophomore Lily Burchell dropped just one game at No. 2 doubles before freshman Shelly Yaloz and sophomore Emily Kim claimed a 6-3 win in the top slot for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Yaloz carried momentum from her win to singles action with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 performance at line 3.
  • Kim was up 6-2, 2-0 when her opponent retired at line 2 to give the Terriers another point.
  • Senior Sabrina Faybyshev remained perfect in dual matches this year with a 7-5, 6-4 win at line 5.
  • Sophomore Katya Martens also had one more break in each set to edge the Rams, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 6 slot.
  • Ramos rallied from a set down to force a third but ultimately came up short in the top spot, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1.
  • URI also clinched a spot at line 4 by holding off Burchell, 7-5, 6-4.
NEXT UP: DARTMOUTH
