WINCHESTER, Mass. – Playing the first of two matches this weekend, the Boston University men's tennis team fell to East Carolina, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.
The Pirates (9-1) extended their win streak to four matches after winning the previous three by a combined score of 12-3, including Friday's 4-0 victory at UConn. They won two doubles matches by a combined score of 13-8 and then captured four singles points in straight sets to dispatch the Terriers (2-6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ECU claimed a 6-3 win at line 3 and then edged sophomores Owen Lu and Ethan Kolsky, 7-5 at line 1.
- Junior J.P. Avila and freshman Max Hartenstein faced a 6-5 deficit when their match was halted in the No. 2 slot.
- The Pirates won the top three doubles matches in straight sets, including identical 6-4, 6-4 results at lines 2 and 3.
- Freshman Max Hartenstein won his first set in the No. 4 match, but Javier Renones rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 win.
- Avila also won his first set but dropped the super tiebreaker in a 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 loss.
NEXT UP: FAIRFIELD
- The Terriers will head to Connecticut to face Fairfield on Yale's campus at 3 p.m.
- BU has won the last three matches, including last year's 5-2 home result and a 4-3 win at Fairfield in 2017.
