WINCHESTER, Mass. – Before embarking on a week-long trip to Florida, the Boston University women's tennis team fell to Brown, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.
The Bears (6-6) won two doubles matches for the first point and then captured four singles points, including two in three sets, to defeat the Terriers (4-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches by a combined score of 12-2 to claim a 1-0 lead.
- Freshman Shelly Yaloz and sophomore Emily Kim led their match, 4-3, when it was halted due to the Bears already capturing the doubles point.
- Brown posted straight-set wins at lines 1 and 5, while sophomore Katya Martens claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win at line 6 for BU.
- Sophomore Lily Burchell added the other singles point by defeating Ryan Peus, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot.
- Kim won the first set in the No. 3 match but Courtney Kowalsky was able to pull out a second-set tiebreaker and rally for the 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-4 win.
- Yaloz rallied herself at line 2 to force a third set but ultimately came up short to Sophia Reddy, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
