Terriers Open Outdoor Season at Hurricane Invite

RESULTS

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -  The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2019 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday by competing at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami.
 
For the women, the Terriers had several strong performers including Leah Fowlkes who competed in the 400m dash and finished third with a time of 55.35, fastest in the Patriot League this young season.  
 
On the men's side, Haig Rickerby had a good showing in the 800m run, finishing sixth with a time of 1:56.17 in a field of 36.

TOP PERFORMERS - MEN
  • The 4x100m relay team of Nikolas Smith, Ebruba Etta, Chiebuka Onwuzurike and Riley Sasaki got things started off for BU on Saturday by finishing sixth with a time of 41.52.
  • Chiebuka Onwuzurike competed in the 100m dash and finished 11th with a time of 10.74. In the same event, Nikolas Smith finished with a time of 10.93 and in 21st place.
  • Onwuzurike also competed in the 100m dash and finished 12th with a time of 21.75. 
  • Robie Webster competed in the 400m dash and finished with a time of 50.50 and in 27th place.
  • In the field, Clint Lockwood competed in the discus on Friday and took 14th with a throw of 44.72m (146'09"). Jason Biesma also competed in the discus and finished 26th with a throw of 32.82m (107'08").
  • Haig Rickerby had a strong performance in the 800m run, finishing sixth with a time of 1:56.17 in a field of 36.
  • In the pole vault, Declan Ritzenthaler finished third with a vault of 4.60m (15'01") in a field of nine while Jason Biesma finished fourth (4.45m, 14'7.25"). 
  • In the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Haig Rickerby, Nikolas Smith, Jamin Harris and Ebruba Etta finished sixth with a time of 3.18.39 in a field of 12.
TOP PERFORMERS - WOMEN
  • The 4x100m relay team of Bridget Chiaravalle, Leah Fowlkes, Ebony Brown and Jordan Coverson finished sixth with a time of  47.60 in a field of 11.
  • Leah Fowlkes competed in the 400m dash and finished third with a time of 55.35 in a field of 34, fastest in the PL so far this season. 
  • Lovie Burleson finished fourth in the long jump with a 5.78m (18'11.75") effort, which is tops in the Patriot League this young season. 
  • Kennedy Jones finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 11.86m (38'11"). In the same event, Burleson took sixth (11.75m – 38'6.75").
  • Alicia Thomas finished the 200m dash with a time of 25.04 and in 15th place while Cecelia Gerstenbacher finished 16th with a time of 25.22.      
  • Zoe Beard finished first in the pole vault with a vault of 3.30m (10'10") while Sarah Chow took second with the same mark (3.30m - 10'10") in a field of eight. 
  • Sarah Cicchetti finished ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.89m (163'08 "), a new personal best. In the same event, Bridget Bishop finished 14th (40.49m – 132'10").
  • Cicchetti would later take 10th in the discuss throw with a throw of 37.49m (123'). 
  • Zoe Meinelschmidt finished 10th in the high jump with a jump of 1.50m (4'11") while Ava Gruzen took 12th (1.45m (4'9"). 
  • Bridget Chiaravalle took seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.60. In the same event, Greer Liguori finished 10th with a time of 14.94 in a field of 25.

The Terriers will split squads and compete at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Stanford Invite in Pala Alto, Calif., both on March 29-30.
