March 18, 2019 | Men's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - For the third time this season, freshman Joel Farabee of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Farabee led the offensive charge for the the Terriers in their Hockey East quarterfinal series victory at No. 18 UMass Lowell, posting four goals and an assist over the three games. The freshman standout recorded both of BU's game-winners over the weekend to help the Terriers get back to TD Garden and keep alive their hopes of defending their 2018 Hockey East title.
In Friday's opener, Farabee opened the scoring with a perfectly placed redirect to the far post from the right circle just 6:24 into the game. He later assisted on junior Patrick Curry's empty netter that sealed a 3-0 victory. Farabee nearly helped BU erase a 4-1 deficit on Saturday, notching both a power-play goal and a shorthanded tally in the second period of an eventual 6-4 setback. In Sunday's decisive game, Farabee potted the eventual game-winner on a laser from the left circle the the top corner to give the visitors a 2-0 lead en route to a 4-1 victory and a spot in the league semifinals.
Farabee continues to lead BU in both points (36) and goals (17) this season and he ranks third nationally among freshmen in points per game at 0.97.
The Terriers will look to continue their postseason run on Friday (March 22) when they take on No. 6/8 Northeastern in the first semifinal at TD Garden. The game, which starts at 4 p.m., will be televised on NESNplus.
