NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Concluding a two-match road trip in Connecticut, the Boston University women's tennis team fell at Yale, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (7-8) captured a tightly-contested doubles point and then claimed four singles points to pull away from the Terriers (6-8), who were coming off Friday night's 6-1 win against Lehigh in Stamford. Sophomore
Lily Burchell led BU by winning both the No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Burchell and senior Remi Ramos posted a 6-3 win in the top doubles slot, while Yale prevailed at line 3 with a 6-2 victory.
- The doubles point came down to the No. 2 match, as the Bulldogs edged sophomore Emily Kim and freshman Shelly Yaloz in a tiebreaker, 7-6(4).
- Burchell cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to put BU on the scoreboard.
- Yaloz bounced back from her doubles loss with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-4 win at line 2 against 2017 blue chipper Caroline Dunleavy, who was the No. 1 recruit in New England.
- The Bulldogs posted straight-set singles wins at lines 1, 3 and 5.
- Sophomore Katya Martens rallied back from a set down to force a third but eventually came up short, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.
NEXT UP: BRYANT
- The Terriers will return home to host Bryant on Friday (March 29) at 3 p.m.
- BU is 3-0 at the Track & Tennis Center this season and swept the Bulldogs, 7-0, last season at home.
