BOSTON – Looking to carry momentum from the Patriot League first round win over Loyola Maryland, the No. 8-seeded Boston University men's basketball team will travel to top-seed Colgate on Thursday night with the quarterfinal clash set to begin at 7 p.m.

The Terriers (15-17) shot 54.3 percent to defeat the Greyhounds, 71-63, and will try to eliminate the No. 1 seed for the first time since dispatching Stony Brook, 70-63, in the 2010 America East semifinals. The Raiders (21-10) enter the contest on an eight-game win streak following the Feb. 2 home loss (76-68) to the Terriers and are 12-1 on the season at Cotterell Court.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • BU is seeking its seventh overall conference title and first since winning the 2011 America East title as the No. 2 seed.
  • Coming off back-to-back PL semifinal appearances, BU is 48-32 (.600) all-time in conference tourneys and 5-5 in the PL with an appearance in the 2014 title game.
  • The Terriers are 24-13 (.649) all-time in quarterfinal matchups, including 0-2 mark as the No. 8 seed ... Last year, they posted an 88-82 win at No. 4 Lehigh as the No. 5 seed.
  • In 2016, Bucknell became the first No. 1 seed in Patriot League history to fall in the quarterfinals with a loss to No. 9 Holy Cross.
  • BU and Colgate are meeting in a conference tournament for the first time since the Terriers claimed an 85-63 victory in the 1990 North Atlantic Conference semifinals in Hartford, Connecticut.

  • BU has won four of its last five games with victories at Holy Cross (70-60) and Lafayette (84-82) and a home loss to Navy (79-74).
  • Sophomore Javante McCoy (11.8 ppg) recorded a career-high 30 points on Tuesday against the Greyhounds for the first 30+ postseason performance by a Terrier since Corey Lowe ('10) tallied 33 points against UMBC in the 2009 America East quarterfinals.
  • Junior Tyler Scanlon (13.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.3 apg) tallied 15 points on Tuesday to become the 38th Terrier to reach 1,000 points ... He is the first Terrier to have 400+ points, 140+ rebounds and 100+ assists in one season since Lowe hit the mark in 2009-10.
  • Junior and 2019 All-PL Second Team honoree Max Mahoney (16.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) has one more career point than Scanlon (1,114-1,113) and is the first Terrier to have 500+ points and 200+ rebounds in one season since John Holland ('11) hit the mark in 2009-10 ... Mahoney ranks No. 14 nationally at 62.5 FG%.
  • 2019 PL All-Rookie Team honoree Jonas Harper (5.3 ppg) ranks third in the PL at 48.6 FG% with sophomore Andrew Petcash (4.6 ppg) shooting 44.7 3FG% over the last 10 games.
  • The Terriers are averaging 72.4 ppg and 47.9 FG% while holding opponents to 72.1 ppg and 47.1 FG% ... BU is 12-1 when opponents finish below 70 points.
SCOUTING COLGATE
  • The Raiders are 12-1 at home this season and have won 16 of their last 17 games with the lone loss coming against the Terriers ... They own notable wins against two-time defending PL champion Bucknell (75-64), PL preseason favorite Lehigh (91-78), Monmouth (87-74) and most recently Holy Cross (79-59).
  • Northwestern transfer and 2019 PL Player of the Year Rapolas Ivanauskas is nearly averaging a double-double at 16.3 ppg and 8.1 rpg, while All-PL Second Team guard Jordan Burns is averaging 15.7 ppg and 5.7 apg.
  • All-PL Second Team forward Will Rayman is also in double figures at 12.6 ppg with 6.5 rpg, while reigning PL Rookie of the Year Tucker Richardson is averaging 7.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 3.6 apg.
  • Colgate is averaging 74.9 ppg and 47.6 FG% while holding opponents to 69.7 ppg and 43.2 FG%.
  • The Raiders are the top rebounding team in the PL with a positive margin of 4.2 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 28-21, after the road team won each contest in wire-to-wire fashion with Colgate claiming a 77-56 win at Case Gym back on Jan. 19 and BU prevailing on Feb. 2, 76-68 ... They first met in 1933-34.
  • The Raiders only led, 47-43, at 13:47 in the second half and later 60-51 with 7:53 remaining before pulling away ... They shot 50.0 FG% and held the Terriers to 37.0 FG% along with the second lowest offensive output of the year.
