The Boston University men's lacrosse team will open its Patriot League schedule on Saturday afternoon when the Terriers travel to Colgate. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

CATCHING UP WITH COLGATE

  • Colgate started the year 2-0, including a season-opening win at then-No. 10 Syracuse.
  • The Raiders have dropped two straight games, however, losing at No. 3 Maryland and most recently against Lehigh, 10-8, on Saturday.
  • Sam Cleveland leads the team in both points 914) and assists (5) while Nicky Petkevich is the Raiders' top goal scorer with 11 markers.
  • Malcolm Feeney is 33-of-72 (.458) at the faceoff X with a team-high 16 ground balls.
  • Connor Mullen has played every minute in the cage for Colgate.
  • He owns a 10.00 goals-against average and a .556 save percentage.

HISTORY WITH COLGATE

  • BU is 3-2 all-time against Colgate, including a 2-0 record in Hamilton.
  • The Raiders won last year's contest, 16-9, but they have never won two straight games against the Terriers.
  • BU scored 18 goals in both victories at Colgate.
  • The Terriers have outscored Colgate, 61-47, in the all-time series.

LAST TIME AGAINST COLGATE

  • BU held a 3-0 lead after one quarter, but Colgate outscored the Terriers, 6-1, in the second stanza en route to a 16-9 win at Nickerson Field on March 10.
  • Chris Gray recorded five points (3g, 2a) while James Burr tallied two goals and one assist.
  • Brendan Homire also  found the back of the net.
  • Joe McSorley made eight saves.

BEST OF BU AGAINST COLGATE

  • James Burr leads all active Terriers with four goals and three assists for seven points against Colgate.
  • Chris Gray is second behind Burr thanks to his three-goal, two-assist effort last year.
  • Brendan Homire has scored one goal in each of the three games he's played against the Raiders.
  • Michael Laviano tallied two goals in the 2017 win.

TERRIERS TERRIFIC AGAINST VERMONT

  • BU cruised past Vermont, 12-4, on Saturday at Nickerson Field.
  • The Terriers held the Catamounts, a squad that averaged over 14 goals per game entering Saturday, to their lowest offensive output of the season.
  • Junior Reece Eddy matched a program record with six caused turnovers in addition to seven ground balls.
  • Freshman Will Carson collected a career-high six ground balls and recorded a career-best three caused turnovers while junior Nicholas Ellerton gathered a career-high four ground balls and also forced a turnover.
  • Sophomore Kevin Snyder was sensational at the faceoff X, winning 10 of the 14 draws he took and gathering five ground balls. 
  • He also notched his first collegiate goal when he won a faceoff and finished the play himself in the fourth quarter.
  • Junior Joe McSorley made 12 saves.
  • Sophomore Chris Gray led the offense with five points (3g, 2a), followed closely by senior James Burr (2g, 2a).
  • Senior Brendan Homire tallied three points (1g, 2a) and two ground balls while freshman Jake Cates twice found the back of the net.
  • Freshman Jett Dziama collected a career-high two points (1g, 1a) while freshman Matt Hilburn and senior Michael Laviano each scored a goal.
  • BU went 13-for-20 at the face-off X and 19-for-22 on clears.
  • The Terriers held Vermont to a 19-for-27 performance in the clearing game.
  • Sophomore Sean Christman was 3-for-6 with three ground balls before Snyder took over at the X.
  • BU caused 17 of the Catamounts' 26 turnovers and also collected 43 ground balls.

EDDY NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK

  • Junior Reece Eddy was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
  • Eddy matched Greg Wozniak's single-game program record with six caused turnovers and added seven ground balls in the Terriers' 12-4 win over Vermont on Saturday.
  • He began the week on Feb. 26 by scoring his first goal as a Terrier in addition to tallying three ground balls and one caused turnover.
  • The versatile LSM is tied for first on the team with 11 caused turnovers and is tied for second on the squad with 19 ground balls. 
  • He has recorded at least two ground balls in five of the Terriers' six games this season.

GRAY NAMED TO TEWAARATON WATCH LIST

  • Sophomore Chris Gray was named to the initial Tewaaraton Watch List that came out on Feb. 28.
  • Gray is second in the NCAA in both points (39) and assists (22) after his five-point effort (3g, 2a) in the 12-4 win over Vermont.
  • Gray recorded back-to-back nine-point efforts in victories against Dartmouth and Sacred Heart before tallying seven points in a 14-9 triumph over Bryant on Feb. 26.
  • A native of Wading River, New York, Gray is appearing on the Tewaaraton Watch List for the second time; he was added to the list in April last season.
  • This is also the fourth straight year that a Terrier has been of the 50 men named to the initial watch list. 
  • Jack Wilson (2018), Cal Dearth (2017) and Sam Talkow (2016) have all received this recognition.

100 POINTS IN 22 GAMES FOR GRAY

  • Sophomore Chris Gray reached the 100-point milestone on Feb. 26 in the Terriers' 14-9 win over Bryant.
  • Gray is the second fastest to 100 points in Patriot League history, doing so in just his 22nd career game.
  • The sensational sophomore enters Saturday with 48 goals and 62 assists for 110 points.
  • He needs just eight more helpers to match Cal Dearth's program record for career assists.
  • Gray is the fifth player in program history to record 100 points and has averaged 4.78 points per game in his career.

BURR NAMED SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE

  • Senior James Burr was selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
  • Burr has showcased notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
  • He is the second Terrier to be a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award; Christian Carson-Banister was recognized in 2017.
  • A captain this season, Burr has been an excellent leader while also making an impact in the community and achieving a 3.0 GPA this past fall as he works towards his degree from the Questrom School of Business.
  • The program's all-time leading goal scorer, Burr added two more goals and two assists on Saturday against Vermont.
  • Burr currently leads the squad with 19 goals and is second on the team with 25 points thanks to six assists.
  • He enters Saturday on a 23-game goal streak, fourth-longest in the nation and longest in the Patriot League.
  • Burr has tallied 116 career goals and he is also third in points with 147 (116g, 31a), trailing only Wilson (170 points) and 2017 graduate Cal Dearth (153 points).

WHERE DO BURR AND GRAY RANK?

  • Sophomore Chris Gray enters the weekend second in the country in both points (39) and assists (22).
  • Senior James Burr is the conference's second-leading goal scorer, having found the back of the net 19 times.
  • That is sixth-most in the country.
  • Four of Burr's 19 strikes have come during man-up situations, which is good for second in the NCAA.

HOMIRE NAMED A CAPTAIN

  • Senior Brendan Homire was named a captain of the Terriers on Tuesday.
  • He joins classmates James Burr, Quintin Germain and Michael Laviano as part of the Terriers' leadership group.
  • Homire has recorded three points in each of the last five games and enters the weekend third on the Terriers with 16 points and second on the squad with 10 assists.
  • Even more impressive is that Homire has notched 19 ground balls, including a career-high five in a 14-9 win over Bryant.

SNYDER SHINES AT THE FACEOFF X

  • Sophomore Kevin Snyder won 10 of the 14 draws he took in the 12-4 win over Vermont on Saturday, gathering five ground balls in the process.
  • He also notched his first collegiate goal when he won a faceoff and finished the play himself in the fourth quarter.
  • Snyder has won 54.7% of the faceoffs he has taken this year and has claimed 13 ground balls.
  • Combined with Sean Christman, who has won 61.5% of his faceoffs, the Terriers are second in the conference and 13th in the country with a .591 win percentage.
