LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by 12 different Terriers getting on the scoreboard, the Boston University women's lacrosse team posted a convincing 19-7 win over Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Graham Field.
Mackenzie Howe and
Kelly Mathews each posted hat tricks as the Terriers posted their fifth 10-goal margin of victory of the season. Howe also was impressive on the defensive end with three caused turnovers, matching
Emily Vervlied and
Tonianne Magnelli.
Ava Barry led the team with four draw controls, while Magnelli came away with six draw controls.
How it Happened
- Mathews forced a turnover on Bucknell's opening clear attempt and found Kailey Conry right in front of the net, who faked high before dropping in a low strike just two minutes in.
- Lexi Lewis followed with a one-timer from Vervlied just 45 seconds later.
- Both teams locked in on the defensive end until Hannah Kenneally regenerated the BU attack with a free position score at the 20-minute mark.
- Kaitlin Belval kept the momentum rolling with two straight solo goals, including converting on a free position shot, while Kelly Mathews added another free position goal of the game to cap a 4-0 run.
- Following an answer by the Bison, Vervlied and Mathews each found the back of the net, and Ava Barry exploded for back-to-back goals at the 5-minute mark to extend the advantage to 10-2.
- Mackenzie Howe caught the hot stick as she pounded two straight scores of her own to cap the 6-0 streak, sending BU into the break with a 12-2 command.
- Bucknell broke a 12-minute scoring drought 62 seconds into second stanza, but Mathews put the running clock back on with her third goal of the game, making it 13-3 Terriers with 25 minutes to play.
- Mackenzie Irvine and Howe delivered back-to-back free position goals before Maddie MacMaster notched another set of back-to-back goals to put the game all but out of reach with just over 12 minutes left.
- Alexandra Hark and Michelle Seger put the exclamation point on the afternoon, as each got on the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes to put away the game.
