April 17, 2019 | Men's Ice Hockey
SAUGUS, Mass. - Three members of the Boston University men's ice hockey team were honored at the 2018-19 New England Hockey Writers Banquet on Wednesday evening at Prince Restaurant.
Junior co-captain Dante Fabbro earned All-New England honors while senior co-captain Bobo Carpenter received the Joe Tomasello Award (Unsung Hero) and freshman Joel Farabee was the winner of the George Carens Award, which is given to the top rookie in New England.
Fabbro, a two-time Hockey East All-Star, ranked third among Hockey East defensemen and second on the Terriers in points with 33 on seven goals and a team-high 26 assists. The British Columbia native led all Hockey East players in blocked shots with 82 and was the only player in the country with 30 or more points and 80 or more blocks. He signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Nashville Predators after BU's season came to an end and is currently playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This marks his second consecutive year being named a New England All-Star.
Carpenter finished his impressive BU career by reaching both the 50-goal and 100-point plateaus, totaling 102 points (56g, 46a) in 144 games. Despite missing 10 games due to injury this season, Carpenter posted 19 points on 10 goals and nine assists. He earned New England All-Star and Hockey East Second Team All-Star accolades last season as a freshman and is currently getting ready for AHL Calder Cup Playoffs with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers after signing a free-agent deal with the New York Islanders.
Farabee completes a sweep of the major rookie of the year awards, becoming the third Terrier in five years to receive the Tim Taylor Award, given to the nation's top rookie, while also earning Hockey East Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman forward led the Terriers in both points (36) and goals (17) while finishing second on the squad in assists with 19. His 0.97 points-per-game average ranked second nationally among rookies and he led all first-year players in shots with 131. He will begin his professional career next season after inking a three-year entry-level deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
