BOSTON – The Boston University women's varsity eight boat defeated Northeastern and BC on Saturday morning, winning the Council Cup over Northeastern.  
 
The BU varsity eight boat pulled ahead of BC early and passed Northeastern over the second half of the contest to win the race by open water. The victory over local rival NU was the first Council Cup win for a BU varsity eight boat since 2013.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the three-boat varsity eight race, Northeastern got out to an early lead followed by BU in second and BC in third. Northeastern and BU pulled away from BC over the first 500 meters in what became a two-boat race for first. The BU varsity eight, coxed by Julia White and stroked by Lexi Wright, trailed Northeastern at the 500 meter mark but continued to close on the Huskies. The Terriers caught and passed NU near the 1000 meter mark and did not look back. BU steadily increased its lead over NU throughout the second half of the race and cruised to victory with an excellent time of 6:51.89, ahead of Northeastern (6:55.22) and well ahead of third-place Boston College (7:03.95).
 
With the win over Northeastern, BU won the Council Cup for the first time since 2013. 
 
The Terriers' 3V8 was also victorious on Saturday in a two-boat race, pulling away early from BC early and not surrendering the lead. Coxed by Christina Lamagna and stroked by Stephanie Gold, the 3V8 finished with a time of 7:55.95, well ahead of BC (8:09.89). 

Earlier in the morning, the second varsity eight boat, coxed by Mia Ball and stroked by Sarah Kate Rogers finished third with a time of 7:12.19, behind winner NU (7:03.29) and BC (7:08.53).
 
The V4A boat, coxed by Francesca Viera and stroked by Sydney Blasetti finished third in a four-boat race with a time of 8:14.39. The BU V4 finished ahead of NU "B" (8:16.90) and behind NU "A" (7:59.11) and BC (8:09.84). 

The BU openweights will next compete against Dartmouth on Saturday, April 13th at a location that has yet to be determined.
